Does the Q Box even accept free to air once the subscripton is cancelled?

Free to air channels are available on a Sky Q box without subscription.
Cancelled in July. Told I don't need to return the box (can if I wish for recycling)
Has worked fine for free to air channels - no recording or on demand obviously

The situation may well have changed since this thread started two years ago, with the era of satellite television in the UK now drawing to a close. Sky not requiring the return of Q hardware is a new thing, and would indicate they don't particularly care about previous restrictions.
