What’s involved in Sky+ change to SkyQ

Hi. I'm taking up a free offer to change from Sky+HD to SkyQ and am wondering what access the engineer will need. Hopefully it's just at the box end.

My dish was replaced a couple of months ago so that should be OK.

The cables from the dish go to a 'manifold' which would be a nightmare to get access to in an attic. From the manifold, two cables go to my existing Sky+HD box and one goes to another tv in a different room with FreeSat.

Will the engineer only need access to the box itself, or should I start clearing an access to the manifold in the attic?

Thanks

Hi @Candleriggs

They need access to the dish as they change the LNB (the electronic bit) .

The cabling should probably be OK if there are 2 cables to the box location.

If you want to continue with Freesat then have you discussed that with them ?

To continue  with a freesat box you need a special kind of LNB called a Hybrid LNB - SKY are getting very reluctant to install these & generally need to agree to this prior to the install

Edit : A word of warning - it seems some, if not many advisers, may not understand about Hybrid LNBs so discussing may prove a little difficult if you don't get through to one that does

May I suggest you read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q that covers these & other points

SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Any further questions don't hesitate to ask

Re: What’s involved in Sky+ change to SkyQ

Thanks for that.

I'm beginning to have second thoughts now.

At the moment I also have a cable connection coming out of the the +HD to a second tv and I know I'll be losing that capability.

The third tv uses FreeSat and if I'm not going to be able to have that, then it's not worth doing.

Thanks for the info in the link.

Ive cancelled the engineer. Sounds like too much hassle plus losing tv in two other rooms. Not worth it.

Hi @Candleriggs

Life of Sky Q now is limited to a few years at most.

Us diehards stick with it for it's recording capabilities.

Maybe Sky Stream would be an option for you.

@oldfella @That looks interesting, but, on a good day, our broadband is about 14mbs, so not for us.
