What is included in my package
We live in a poor reception area which a Ariel doesn't work. We are both in our 70s and need the box for watching TV . The cost is £37.50 which is now a lot of money What can you do for us as we only need Coronation Street and Emmerdale. Regards Jeff

Re: What is included in my package
Hi @pvfc You need to tell us which packages you have subscribed to. I'm guessing Sky Signature, but anything else?

Hi @pvfc For the programmes you want, then Freesat (not Sky) is the best choice. Get a local satellite installer set you up. There will an initial cost for the box and installation, but zero monthly cost afterwards.

Re: What is included in my package
...alternatively, ask Sky to switch to Essentials. (Basically free-to-air channels so the soaps are covered)
This allows you to keep the Q box for a lower monthly cost. Retail is £15pm but you may be able to negotiate it lower...
However, the cheapest long term option is as @MightyQuinn describes but requires an initial outlay and change of receiver box.

Re: What is included in my package
Another alternative, if you only watch Corrie and Emmerdale, is to use the ITVX app which may already be installed on your TV.
Is your TV a smart TV? How old is it?
Do you have broadband?
If you do have broadband and a smart TV with the ITVX app then you can simply connect the TV to your broadband and it will receive all the ITV channels for you to watch live, or you can watch everything on demand at a time that suits you.
This will cost you nothing. You don't pay anything for the ITVX app if it is already on your TV. It is completely free to watch anything on the app, including Corrie and Emmerdale. You can do the same with the BBC iPlayer app, Channel 4 app and Five app. All of these will allow you to watch all the main channels for free, all you need to do is connect your TV to your broadband either wirelessly over WiFi or using an ethernet cable to your broadband router.
It's a very simple process which a friend or relative may be able to help you set up. Once you've done so you won't need to buy any other boxes and won't need to record anything, you would use your existing TV remote control too.

Always check whether you need a TV licence of course... (An unfit for purpose system but it is what it is)

Indeed. Although you can obtain a free TV licence under some circumstances:
You can apply for a free TV Licence if:
- You, as the licence holder, are 75 years or older
AND - you, or your partner living at the same address, receive Pension Credit.
