OK, but they could make it clear what peopel are paying now once out of their initial 18mth contract. That would do me.

Have you checked the 'legal bit' as suggested? Current out of contract prices are often quoted there.

As I am well out of contract can I simply cancel my SKY + subscription and take on SKY Q as a new subscriber and save some/all of the initial setup fees?

Possibly but I've always been able to negotiate a deal better than new customers...

Thanks. Just building my case before I call them.

I don't think so - I am not quite sure what checks they make & how they make them but I am fairly certain they check for other members of the family

Depends on what you negotiate.
Mine was £50 per month before April 2023, now increased to £76 at end of contract for
Sky Q, multiroom, hd, netflix, cinema.
Just got an offer for same at £48, however I am still leaving as I have better offer from Virgin. I have told sky my virgin offer and they cant match it, so im off.
Its a shame as Ive been with sky 12 years and they are unwilling to give me anything for my customer loyalty.

It is indeed strange - many providers seem to prefer making a loss to entice you across hoping you'll stay. If you're prepared to switch then you'll always get the best prices.

You may have been charged that as an up-front service fee: it's not a purchase price.
