What is cost of SKY Q after 18 month contract and why won't SKY tell me?

What is cost of SKY Q after 18 month contract and why won't SKY tell me?

I'm potentially insterested in changing my SKY+HD box for SKY Q but trying to find information from SKY is just about impossible.  They appear to offer only Stream and Glass which I am not interested in and when I do find a page about Q (via Goggle not via Sky Search button) it only gives me prices for bundles which I am not interested in.  Their chat function is just useless.  Can anyone here tell me how much SKY Q is on it's own and how much it's likely to be after the initial 18 Months.

Sky's contracts are based on 2 elements.  Firstly the list price of the sub and secondly any 'in contract' discount you have.

The list price increases every April.

To answer your question no one can tell you as it depends on future increases.  However, in simple terms you simply remove the discount.

So if Signature sub was £30 and you got £5 discount then you pay £25 whilst 'in contract' and then £30 afterwards.  (But could increase to £32, making 'in contract' price of £27 and £32 without)

However, what you do is renegotiate a new 18 month deal so you never pay list price.  (But you cannot cancel if 'in contract')

It's no different for HD boxes.

Sky Q boxes cost nothing: they are on free loan (although there may be an initial fee).  The monthly payment is for the subscription bundle: typically you'll find the 'normal' amount (once a minimum contract term has ended) in the 'Here's the legal bit' small print at the bottom of the web page.

hi @pra29

TBH you are always best to get a new deal rather than rely on continuing at full rates.

Rates do vary but AFAIK (I could be wrong)  the full  'list' prices after this years uplift  for most components are:

SKY Signature (Minimum base sub) £32

Ultimate TV (aka Netflix) £6

HD add on £8

UHD (on top of HD) £4

Multiscreen £15

SKY Sports Complete (in HD - although usually listed separate on bills) £36 ((30+6)

SKY Cinema £12  (although I am not too sure how / if these vary if taking out separately/combined)

SKY Kids £6

BUT  These can all vary depending on deals & combinations (especially as netflix is now generally bundled with Signature). When in a contract prices can be considerably less

As the others have pointed out there is no cost for SKY Q itself & the above charges are likely to be the same as on SKY HD for applicable content

BTW you may also wish to read some notes I have put together for those thinking of moving:

SKY HD to SKY Q

Thanks, I've just discovered that I 'could' have extened my 18 mth contract in the past but never been advised by Sky that this was possible.  I rarely go onto the website as it's so awful but I did find out about this only yesterday after ten years with SKY!

You are probably not alone in paying 'out of contract' prices for long periods...

But if Sky don't hear from you then they'll assume you are happy paying what you are...  (And it's not an unreasonable assumption)

Hi @pra29

SKY are not proactive in informing people about coming to the end of contracts etc - although I think there are moves to try to make them

Always best to renegotiate at the end of any minimum contract

Re: What is cost of SKY Q after 18 month contract and why won't SKY tell me?

I think that as the years have passed I have gradually deleted, Sports, Box Sets, HD from my subsciption may have given them a clue.  Again, not once did they offer me any discount to renew contract.

Still in dispute with Ofcom: last update was that Sky were appealing the ruling.

If you had given them notice to leave they may well have mentioned it... 😉

@pra29if you go to sky.com and use the TV drop down at the top and select Q you can build the packages you want, it will normally give the basic price, which is the one after the 18 months and a lower price which is the current offer. You can probably do better by phoning.

Re: What is cost of SKY Q after 18 month contract and why won't SKY tell me?

What I tend to do is renegotiate a new rate for my discounts!  Then put a reminder in my diary for 17 months' time - this allows me to call/renegotiate or give 31 days notice of terminating.

Thanks, but it  does NOT give the basic price though, only bundles. hence my query.  Nor does it tell me what the price might be in 18 months time.

@pra29

That will involve at least one annual price increase so it's impossible to say.
