What channel on sky is channel 4 standard definition?

Due to cost I've stopped the HD package, but now can't record channel 4 as states it's HD - is there a standard definition version of channel 4 on sky that I can record?

@staceyu1   Have you checked lower number in the EPG as the SD version still exists

hi @staceyu1

try channel 804

BTW for downloads from many channels be aware the default download quality is set to HD (high Definition) not SD then possibly when you try to download and watch you could be  prompted to upgrade (i.e. take out the HD subscription)

To prevent this you, probably, jare best to change your download preference to SD
Main Menu -> Settings -> Setup -> Preferences

(Please note this setting can only be set on the Main box)

Even without the HD pack you should be able to record Channel 4 HD as it's a free channel.

It would seem that you can only get Channel 4+1 in SD; Channel 4 is, as you state, is now only available in HD which is darned annoying, inconsistent and just nonsensical. 🤬

I just set the EPG to record everything one hour later.

The main reason I prefer non HD channels is simply because things in order in SD occupy far less space on the device's hard drive - important for me, as I don't always have the time to watch things right away, so space can reach a premium quite quickly.

C4 is struggling financially: cutting duplicate HD/SD satellite transmission is a cost saving.  It wouldn't be surprising if the +1 service disappeared next.

I've just googled C4 and , as you say, it is struggling. That said, it apparently didn't stop the bosses taking home million bonuses.

It never ceases to amaze me how keen top brass are to keep paying themselves bonuses, despite their respective companies not performing well. 😲

Everything is about the almighty £ these days...🙄

When this topic was created in September, Channel 4 SD was still available on 804, however it closed at the end of November. STV (in Scotland) and Channel 5 are now the only main channels still available in SD on satellite.

Blimey, you'd have to go some to fill the hard drive!

Whilst the HD is supposed to be for temporary time shifting, many use it for long term archiving of their 'favourite' stuff.

That's ok.... Until the HD (inevitably) fails.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
