What Happens to Sky Cinema if I Cancel Sky TV?

Hi everyone, I have a question I hope someone can help with. I’m currently on a Sky Signature contract that ends later this year. I also recently added Sky Cinema, which I’ve been told has a minimum term until 2027. I’m planning to cancel my Sky TV completely when the Signature contract ends, but I’m not sure what will happen to the Sky Cinema add-on. Will it be automatically cancelled with the main TV package, or will I still have to pay for it until 2027? I would really prefer not to call Sky, as I struggle to understand some of the agents due to language and accent difficulties. Can anyone explain what happens in this situation, or how I can sort this out without making a phone call? Thanks in advance!

@Tusia91 Pretty sure that when you added Sky Cinema your TV contract would have been reset to run for 24 months too.

If you look in the My Sky app you'll be able to see if this is the case.

As far as I know you need to have a Sky TV subscription in place, you can't just have Cinema or Sports.

@Tusia91 as @Anonymous  indicates adding additional subscriptions does indeed extend the base subscription as you can't have anything else without it

If the Cinema deal offer date goes past the base TV pack then you will continue with the base pack at full list price* as you cannot cancel it.  (The premium channel requires a base TV pack)

* unless you agree a new deal that co-terminates

Re: What Happens to Sky Cinema if I Cancel Sky TV?

Thanks, that actually clears things up a lot.
I spoke to Sky and asked several times if I could still cancel all my TV services in October, and I was told yes. But later in the app, I noticed Sky Cinema showed as running until 2027, which confused me.

  • Your explanation makes sense now – it looks like when Sky Cinema was added, it may have extended or reset the contract to 24 months. I've already cancelled the Cinema add-on now to avoid being tied in longer, and I’ll be cancelling Sky TV entirely when my main contract ends in October.

Appreciate the help 👍

This doesn't make sense.  You said you added Cinema until 2027 - if you did as a minimum term then you can't cancel.

And if the base TV contract was extended then you can't cancel that!

Check the minimum term dates on your account - each service will display, "In contract to dd/mm/yyyy".

@PandJ2020 Doesn't 'cooling off' period apply on TV packages?

Not usually

Also, usually any  TV packages that are 'Trials' (free or reduced cost) rely on the customer to cancel, otherwise they renew automatically

I didn't think it did with Cinema and Sports. Otherwise you could deliberately subscribe for less than 14 days as needed.

@nigea99 I think in the UK you have a 31 day cooling off period and the ROI a 14 day period after looking online, so @Tusia91 could cancel Cinema without penalty if still in that period.

@Anonymous  not on renewals only on initial sign ups

the reason why is because on renewal you are agreeing to continue a service that you are already receiving whereas on sign up you don't start paying until you start receiving the service which can be awhile after ordering because of delivery of equipment and setup if an engineer is required

in this case with cinema the activation is instant as the equipment and main service is up and running so that renders the cooling off period irrelevant

Re: What Happens to Sky Cinema if I Cancel Sky TV?

@SKY1992bf I'm seeing information online, including from posts in 2024, where customers have agreed to a new contract, then changed their mind within 31 days and have been able to cancel.

As the original poster had been given a new 24 month contract after adding Cinema then they did have the right to cancel and revert back to their old contract. If they had been outside the 31 days/14 days in ROI, then they would have been stuck.

Would be useful if someone from Sky could give us the right information though?

In that case best for @Tusia91 to speak to sky directly

Re: What Happens to Sky Cinema if I Cancel Sky TV?

@SKY1992bf The OP has already spoken to Sky and has cancelled Cinema and gone back to her old contract, which expires in a few months time.

@Anonymous  I don't think there's a definitive answer here as it's solely at sky's discretion on a case by case basis as to whether the cooling off period applies in the same way cancelling without early termination charges is

in this case op got the resolution they wanted
