We have had sky q tv installed today but we can only access freeview channels not any sky channels

Newly installed sky q today but unable to get sky channels I.e gold. alibi.sjy comedy.can only get freeview channels

Engineer installed dish and set up but I  wasn't in as I was at work but husband was.we have the basic sky package (not films or sports)

@PaulaI so do you have the Sky signature subscription then ?  or did you go for Sky essentials ? 

Did you receive a viewing card before the engineer arrived ?

I think the original package. I have sky q tv.broadband and phone. Yes card came before engineers

@PaulaI so thats encouraging you have a card what message do you see if you go on to the channels you cannot get 

 

Can you try rebooting your main Q box ie
putting your box into Standby then switching it off at the wall for 30 seconds
switch it back on then follow the on screen instructions

I have just checked my invoices and I have the essential package.Is that just the freeview channels? If yes I will try and upgrade my package ( I done it all over the phone so got a bit confused lol (nearly an oap)

hi @PaulaI 

 

Yes Essentials is just the Free to Air channels- I am afraid you need Signature for Alibi, Gold etc.

Yes, essentials is basically freeview.  (It would be an unusual first subscription as most switch to it to reduce their costs and keep the box)

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

@PaulaI don't worry it happens i'm sure Sky will upgrade you if you want to upgrade to the Signature package but the signature package is a bit more expensive but you do get a lot more channels in it

@PaulaI might be better giving Sky a call and see if you can get a lower price whilst talking to them there's more chance of a better discount talking to them 😀
