Wanting a sky q mini box in the bedroom - options

Is there a sky q mini box available that is Bluetooth rather than infrared? We want to hide the box behind the TV so would need a Bluetooth version. We currently have a similar set up downstairs but have to point the remote behind the TV. Because of where it is that isn't an issue downstairs but don't want to get out of bed to change the channel or turn it off 😊

Sky Q Mini boxes have had Bluetooth remotes for many years, so yours must be a decent vintage if it isn't?

You can order a new Sky Q mini and it should have a Bluetooth remote, making it fine for your needs, but, Q hardware is sometimes fully refurbished as new boxes haven't been made for a while, which means you run the risk of getting a non Bluetooth version, albeit that chance is pretty slim.

If you did, you could complain and send it back, but you can't order one specifically in advance, you get what you are given.

hi @Lutz30

All  SKY Mini boxes are capable of being controlled via Bluetooth - only the very first minis were issued with Infrared only remotes but even if the remote is/was IR only the minis themselves can be paired in bluetooth mode with a newer remote

If your current remote does not have voice button then it is one of the original IR only remotes but any remotes with a voice button (either on the front as current, or on the side  for older remotes) can be paired in bluetooth

If you have an IR only remote then you probably can get SKY to send a bluetooth / voice control for free - or buy one from a variety of sources

(To be clear  you do not need to replace a mini box to have a remote connected in bluetooth mode - although you may need to replace an old IR only remote)

hi again @Lutz30

I may have partially misunderstood your post & re-reading I suspect you don't have a mini currently - although my reply still holds regarding being able to control the mini in bluetooth mode - any new mini will be issued with a voice/bluttoth remote

If you currently need line of sight with your main box then (asssuming you have a voice remote - all main boxes are issued with them) then you just need to pair it properly with your main box - to do this :

May I suggest you try a reset of your remote:

Press & Hold the 7 & 9 until the remote's light (red LED above the SKY logo button) flashes 4 times

Then press 1 & 3 together to go through to re-pair with the box and your TV - make sure it has line of sight of the box at this point  as until it is paired it uses Infrared
