Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI think it's something else. Mine was ok (in terms of speed but it was unreliable) then it was properly terrible. Nothing had changed. I reconfigured the network, took the Q's wifi out of the equation. Now (for 2 years straight) it's great. UHD movie ready to play in 5 seconds. 1Gb connection. But I know some people get ok performance on wifi too.

I'll pick up a long net work lead and try direct. I could also try a different wifi connection there are 2 on the router.
thanks

Yes this makes it unusable. I have to download the program/film the day before l want to watch it. Thinking about ditching the whole lot ☹️

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreAnother approach worth considering, that if it works might be a more permanent solution, is Gaz1's cheap tp-link wifi extender (RE200 I think) trick to act as a wifi relay. Has worked for a number of people solving disconnection issues.

I have been having this issue lately as well. Downloaded Fast X and look near 30 mins, dispite being on 500MB BB and all other devices and speed are fiine. Seems downloading from catch up etc is getting slower

I don't think they ever went much quicker than that. I just tested mine with that movie. 1Gb connection. 25% in 8 minutes so similar download speed to you. I think it's just optimised for "quick enough to start watching without hanging about and playback without buffering" - because anything quicker will cost more for zero added value. UNLESS you're talking about downloading onto Sky Go for portable use. So I tested on my iPad (while Fast X was still downloading on the Q) - I don't know what resolution the Sky Go downloads are, clearly they're not UHD HDR. But the whole of Star Trek Insurrection, a 1hr43 movie, downloaded in less than 1 minute.

Moved a power line adapter next to Q to give wired connection. On the setup it gave 120mbps but when plugged in and downloading only gave 48mbps which did improve the time before playable to about 10 minutes and 18%. That was for a 1 hour uhd program. It used to be nearly instant.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIt definitely isn't downloading at 48Mb then. That's fast enough to be almost instant playback.
Did you do a network reset on the Q to get it to use ethernet and manually disable its wifi? It likes to sneak back to it when you're not looking.

I didn't reset it but if i unplug the cable the Q goes off line so I was thinking Q was using the wired connection. Need to try the 5 GHz wifi that tests at 126mbps
thanks

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIt will only use 5GHz wifi if you're on Sky broadband. 48 is about double what a UHD movie needs to play in realtime as it streams.

Ok buddy thanks for the information. I'll also try a long lead back to the router then.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreWorth doing it for comparison.
Worth also trying to forcibly disable the wifi to see what happens.

I've had this problem since December as well. BT 900Mb. Sky fitted a booster then and it didn't resolve the problem. Today they gave me a new Qbox, still hasn't resolved the issue. The only time I get "normal" download speed is when my mini boxes are not connected. As soon as the system "nests" and tries to be too smart about rerouting to optimise, it becomes the absolute opposite of optimized. Awful service - they say they've not changed anything but they must have - it wasn't an issue before December for the last 6 years.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThey probably haven't changed anything but something dynamic (and stupid) is going on, probably it's decided the mini is the best connection to the internet or something.

I've tried lots of different things to resolve this issue but nothing really fixes the slow download speed. Sky are no help!
