Re: Unwanted sign language in recordings downloaded

They said it's nothing to do with Sky, BBC supply what they supply and Sky post it up for us to watch.

They're correct, I'm afraid. You could take it up with the BBC?

The BBC like all civil services are paid at the beginning of the year, rather than subscription so are answerable to no one. I wouldn't waste my time.

Re: Unwanted sign language in recordings downloaded

Thank you lol I've been watching The Tourist season 2, back to back hit episode 5 and the guy signing appeared taking up half the screen. The rest of the episodes were fine buy this one was unwatchable, I gave up halfway thru. I'll try find it on I player then. I thought I'd somehow altered my Q settings and I couldn't find an answer online till I saw your comment. Much appreciated

It's not just the BBC, I have the same thing for a Chanel 4 recording of Grand Designs. Presume the same applies to this.

Re: Unwanted sign language in recordings downloaded

I have the same problem with a BBC program, I cannot seem to record it on my Sky box without the sign language person.  However I logged into iPlayer and it worked fine.  So not sure why it records it with the signer.

That would be because the version of the programme you recorded included BSL (typically an early morning broadcast). The answer is to select a different version to record.

I wathced an episode with no signing, but Sky then queued the next episodes with signing.  Why isn't the next episode without signing like the first?  This happen a lot on Sky Q and shouldn't be something the customer should have to put up with.  Not only is it extremely distratacting,  taking up a disproportionate amount of real estate,, the actual programme screen area has shrunk considerably.  Sort this out Sky.

Find it incredibly annoying, trying to watch a number of  bbc series, watch 1 episode then download the rest and automatically get the sign language version seems ridiculous really.

@matt30uk you need to contact viewer relations at viewerR@sky.com as the BBC supply the assets so it may not be Skys fault and you may have to contact the BBC

Re: Unwanted sign language in recordings downloaded

It sounds really frustrating for viewers who are dealing with unwanted sign language in their recordings. While it’s important to have accessibility options, the different versions can be annoying. It would be great if Sky could make it easier for people to choose their preferred version. Contacting viewer relations might also help find better solutions!

No SL flag on my recordings, don't know until I play, crazy.

Re: Unwanted sign language in recordings downloaded

No. Not helpful. Still in a position where I download BBC iplayer recordings and get a signed version with no option for an UNsigned verson. Very frustrating as not only does the sign guy (who I'm sure is doing an amazing job for the audibly impaired) takes up a 3rd of the screen but the actual picture is in a small screen itself. WHY WHY WHY is there no option to select or not select this???????????(yes, I really did type 10 ?marks, that's how frustrated I am!)
