I have received the letter this morning to upgrade to Sky Q at no extra cost. I do not know how to do it online (if it is possible) and I have rung the number twice and been told there is a waiting time of 30 mins. plus so have had to abandon it. As someone of more advanced years I am finding it all very complicated - I have also been a Sky customer for over 20 years and now have a different mobile number which is not registered with them, yet I can't get to speak to anyone to change it. finally, is Sky Q really free and is it any good?

Q has now been around for seven years and is the platform for about 80% of Sky satellite subscribers. It can do UHD (from the main box), on-board apps and wireless 'Multiscreen' but has no 'Reminder' function.
The 'VIP upgrade' is typically at no up-front cost, but beware that a bundled Q Mini box (for an additional television set) may well increase the monthly subscription: Sky are rather lax in their definition of 'free' in this respect.

In addition to what @TimmyBGood has said I think it may be worth your while reading some notes I have put together for people thinking of moving from SKY +/HD to SKY Q
