Can you not disable 5 in the 001 settings on the Sky box?

2.4 not 2.5.
It doesn't use 5GHz wifi with non-Sky routers. I would have expected it to ignore band steering but there is definitely something screwy with Q wifi and I'm prepared to believe it's this.

i phoned Sky to explain this and to also explain I had the same connect/disconnect cycle when the box was set to WiFi or Ethernet. They said sounds unlikely to be their box (🤣) but are sending me a replacement.
Will have to see if it makes any difference.
Might work. Suspect it could be the Q flooding the network with broadcast packets which it sometimes does.

I leave it and miraculously it reconnects all on it's own ! It has this week anyway....I just don't bother with it now as soon as u have rebooted WiFi and sky box it's disconnected again days later so I ignore the thing altogether...

Mines reconnects then cuts off again he seems to think it's the booster and booked an engineers appointment. Hope you get yours resolved 👍🏾

I've had this issue for several years constantly having to reset the network connection and put in a new password. It all mysteriously started to happen immediately after we left sky broadband. I've been given a very naff excuse under the sun. They insist it's because my router is bad and it's my ISP's issue. Every other device, smart lights, computers, WiFi speakers etc all seem fine, including the Apple TV box that will be replacing this out of date product anyway.
I'll be cancelling sky because it's very obvious to me that this is a slimey attempt to encourage people to buy into their 1990s themed ecosystem. I would like encourage everyone here not note who among us have sky broadband and who have broadband from other providers.

I've been having the very same problem for well over a year. I continually have to reboot the Sky Q box. I am with EE for my broadband and a few months ago, I upgraded my broadband to full fat wired fibre to my property. It made no difference to the constant dropping off from my network, while all my other devices remain connected to my WiFi perfectly OK. Today, I spoke to Sky technical help - if you can call it that! She instructed me to unplug it from the wall and leave it for 3 minutes while she tried to make small talk to kill time. Then when it booted up, she told me to reset the box and re-enter my password. I was dreading doing this because it's so tedious. After all that, a few hours later it dropped out again. It's very poor service, and I fail to understand why Sky cannot to a system update for everyone who has a Sky Q box.

Total waste of time they know this occurs all the time it's to get us to sub to sky completely it's a con! No other device gas this issue just sky q it's a total nonsense I Lost all my recordings cus of their support hegtgen ordered me a new box I refused it on delivery!!!!! It stops out weekly I leave it be it then reconnects all in it's own ! I refuse to medal with my bt router of which there is nothing wrong with it either so we co exist with this I wonder every time I turn on whether it's dropped out like it's my fault with that annoying statement on the screen!!!! I now leave it and carry on and ignore it soon I will unsub from sky but u can't do this till your contract is 30 days near it's end it's a total con...then I'll be free of them.
It's called band steering by the way !

My contract is up as of this month but I would be arguing breach of contract were I still tied into them. When I recontracted a year ago I started using the streaming services which have completely replaced us watching anything on sky which is why this slipped under the radar. We just weren't watching anything on the sky q box. It's only when I tried to watch something exclusive to sky recently that I noticed their box is completely unfit for purpose.

PS: I'm not sure if this is legitimate band steering becuase I've set this up on an isolated 2.4ghz network, a dual band network, tried connecting to a devolo hotspot and tried just on the router by itself.
the problem is with all these things, not Sky's amazing hardware.
I wonder how long it'll be before this post is deleted as misinformation? 😂

I see that's a bummer it really does suck ... sky always has ....I only have it for sports mostly mainly premier League I have to think can I live without it .... probably yes.... they really are an awful outfit 😕

So apparantly, the "moderator" took issue with the fact that I mentioned that quite a while ago the tech support people at Sky asked whether I had considered Sky Broadband because their gear works well together. I did use some rather mean (non-vulgar) words so the post was censored as it wasn't "nice". Hopefully, I won't cause anyone offence, moving forward but please do reach out if you feel my posts are offensive or otherwise mean.
