Total waste of time they know this occurs all the time it's to get us to sub to sky completely it's a con! No other device gas this issue just sky q it's a total nonsense I Lost all my recordings cus of their support hegtgen ordered me a new box I refused it on delivery!!!!! It stops out weekly I leave it be it then reconnects all in it's own ! I refuse to medal with my bt router of which there is nothing wrong with it either so we co exist with this I wonder every time I turn on whether it's dropped out like it's my fault with that annoying statement on the screen!!!! I now leave it and carry on and ignore it soon I will unsub from sky but u can't do this till your contract is 30 days near it's end it's a total con...then I'll be free of them.

It's called band steering by the way !

There is something slightly amusing about that unreadable post being punctuated by correcting someone's writing. 😉

I agree totally that the Q's wifi is bobbins.

Re: The box keeps disconnecting to the wifi so can’t use search or any apps.I keep resetting

This is occurring every damn day for me now. I have to keep going through the faff of resetting the WiFi, reconnecting to (surprise!) a WiFi router NOT provided by Sky and then hoping it connects. It often thinks about it for a few minutes and then will either allow me to connect or will say NOPE. Not today. I'll switch it off overnight and then turn it back on the next day and it's connected to it like there was never an issue.,

Slt really are dropping the ball on this issue and should have the ombudsman looking at these tactics to force people in to using their providers.

We all feel your pain it's too aggravating for words especially as it costs a lot to have sky....I ignore mine now and eventually it reconnects to my bt hub on it's own...I guess the band steering has a fight and sometimes it reconnects it really is too stressful and painful to keep putting in that dang password it's onerous on a grand scale and I really can't do it anymore it's not good to keep turning off your wifi either !!!! Yes it really needs improving on as it's a joke ....at some point I will ditch sky for an easier life.

True.... unfortunately sky know this why they want it to be like this so you'll use their broadband it's a con.

It really is taking the *iss.  Mine drops out sometimes twice a day.  I wonder if we could contact an ombudsman of some sort because the Sky Q box as it is, is not fit for purpose.

I wouldn't bother to reconnect it, but it's a pain having to FF instead of speaking to the remote to 'skip 4 minutes' for the ad breaks.

Also, I use Netflix and Discovery+ which means I must be connected to my broadband.

If anyone here finds a permanent solution, do please let us all know 🙂

just give up on wifi and use powerlines or ethernet. Life becomes better.

That's not viable if there is no Ethernet routing and the power socket is on a different ring to where the router is.  This is the problem I have.

more to the point, there is no technical reason this should be happening. It was find when I had sky broadband, so I guess the solution is to just get sky broadband too?

Pretty sure most powerlines make it through the distribution box. Don't think mine are all on the same ring.

Ethernet backed with wifi-mesh nodes is another approach that avoids the Sky wifi madness. Also gives you a great wifi network but can cost a fair bit.

And putting a roof on 4 walls on an empty plot of land and turning it into a house isn't practical on some level but people do it 😉

Unfortunately the layout of incoming line is upstairs so I would have to run unsightly cable from WiFi all the way from that bedroom along a landing down the stairs to my sky box it would be unzcceiin my case believe me I nearly had that done but it really would have been unacceptable aesthetically!!!

Or I can simply cancel sky, save £51 a month and use my Apple TV box which works flawlessly. I don't think you understand that it's not our job to fix skys dodgy "technical issues".

and yes, I've tried power lines. They do not work over separate rings because the RCD specifically stops that.

I appreciate your reply, but what we would like to see is someone from Sky apologising for this and saying their going to patch this nonsense.

That's why ethernet gets routed in the cavities behind plasterboard and ceilings. No one runs it in the open.

try powerlines maybe. Can always send them back if they don't work.

You could. I chose to fix it as Q does a few things for me I can't easily do with other services. Drove me mad for 2 years though.

Sky are never going to fix this. It's been the same sinve Q was launched.

Oh and we have an RCD of course and it seems to be fine

This guy (just a quick random google) got the same result https://www.avforums.com/threads/do-powerline-ethernet-adapters-work-across-rcds.1223738/

are yours on separate consumer units?

Ok, so just cancelled sky (after having it since 1998) and they waived the 30 day notice period.  The lad I spoke to made it very easy to cancel and was extremely efficient.  Cheerio everyone.  I genuinely hope that Sky gets this sorted because it feel like a shyster move on their part.

I would urge those of you with this issue that it's NOT your responsibility to fix this issue with either money or labour.  If the box doesn't work properly (as a WiFi device) then it doesn't work.  You shouldn't need to drill holes through your walls to make Sky's product work or need to purchase additional hardware to make their product fit for purpose.

Sky Q doesn't do anything more than Apple TV, or Roku etc all of which seem to be far better.  The fact that nobody from Sky has chipped in here (other than to censor one of my rants) says a lot.

Adiu.
