Re: TNT Sports Ultimate not 4K - Forest Vs Chelsea

If you pay for TNT Sports via your Sky account, your contract is with Sky, not TNT! So you need to contact Sky with any problems. If you contact TNT and you say you are not their customer, how far are you going to get with any complaint?

It's not just a Sky problem though. I checked their 4K HDR coverage from the Discovery+ app and it looked exactly the same as it did on Sky Q. Either they aren't using native 4K HDR sources or they have some post processing or compression going on which makes it look like upscaled 720p/1080p.

It all hinges on how you pay for TNT Sports. If you pay via your Sky account I would suggest taking it up with Sky. There was a recent problem with a fluctuating sound level on TNT Sports 1, and a Sky employee did escalate it to TNT and the issue is now resolved.

Personally the TNT 4K stream is miles better than the Sky Sports 4k ones.

You are joking right?

TNT 4K barely looks HD.

No I'm not it's looks great on my LG C2. Clearly 4k and HDR on (493) If I change challenge to the standard HD channel (410) the difference is huge. It's not even good for HD.

Re: TNT Sports Ultimate not 4K - Forest Vs Chelsea

Wait until TNT and Sky Sports are both showing a PL/EFL match at the same time, then compare channel 493 (TNTU) with 401 (SkySpME UHD).  You'll see how much sharper and brighter the picture is on 401. It's not even close - the difference is striking on my 77 inch G3. The players on the far side of the pitch are blurry on 493. It doesn't look like native 4K at all...

I have I'm sorry but I watch games on both all the time I don't share your experience. On my set up it is definitely a sharp 4k experience on TNT Ultimate.

Do you work for TNT?...

They are not the same quality, whether you think TNTU is 4K or not.. Like I say, switch back and forth when the are simultaneously showing PL/EFL games. The Sky broadcast is much higher quality.

I'm not the only one saying this - there are several other threads commenting the same.

@kwangomango I don't think TNT and Sky Sports ever broadcast the same event simultaneously...

Correct. But Sky often show an EFL game in native 4K on 401 whilst TNT are showing a PL game on 493.

Re: TNT Sports Ultimate not 4K - Forest Vs Chelsea

@kwangomango Indeed. But unless you can compare the same event, it's not really a fair comparison. Broadcast conditions will vary from one event to another. Events shown on Sky Sports vary in PQ in my experience. Sometimes pin sharp, other times not so great. And sharpness of vision varies enormously from one person to another, so no two people will see an event in the same way, even when looking at the same screen.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

If you are going to compare Sky Sports and TNT Sports then just make sure that it is under floodlights (obviously this will be different by venue) and not a daylight match. In my opinion, the UHD cameras really struggle with light and shade and perform much better with a stable light source.

Re: TNT Sports Ultimate not 4K - Forest Vs Chelsea

@TechGuy007 Yeah, the picture quality on channel 401 (SkySpME UHD) can vary because some of it is upscaled HD - Golf, and NFL for example. Although the NFL i saw the other day had native 4K HDR studio shots mixed in.

That's why I'm focusing on English PL/EFL. 401 has been showing every single PL game in native 4K HDR for years. I've watched dozens of them and they've all looked absolutely stunning on my calibrated 77 inch LG G3 OLED. And the odd EFL game I've caught recently has been of the same standard. It absolute demo quality 4K material broadcast at 25-30mbps.

I've also watched plenty of recent PL games on 493 (TNT U) and they look like 1440p at best, probably because of a reduced bandwidth used to save money.

The difference is so obvious to me that I suspect it's people's eyesight or TV setup to blame if they are unable to see the difference.
