Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note
That one you linked to does appear to be, but the images aren't quite clear enough to tell. There are a couple of Sky part numbers which should be researchable online, and they should have a Sky logo somewhere.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

@Mike-S If you search for '4 Output 2x4 Hybrid LNB Compatible For SKY Q / Freesat OFFICIAL GENUINE EL028' on ebay you should find a merchant called Skysatstore offering 'GENUINE' Sky EL028 Hybrid LNBs

Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note
Thanks for the E-Bay info Godfrey.
It seems cheap compared to others I have seen but it does say that it’s a Sky branded LNB so I guess it is genuine and will be fine? I am happy to pay for a better quality LNB if needed.
One further question – it says it’s to fit a Mk 4 dish – how do I know what dish I have?

Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note
@Mike-S Although the pictures are not clear enough for accurate analysis, the website that you pointed to suggests to me that you are likely to be sent a 'compatible' hybrid LNB which will not have an eliptical feedhorn which accurately matches the shape of a Sky MiniDish and will have a 40mm LNB mounting collar which relies on using the non Sky standard mounting collar that they supply instead of a standard 37mm Sky dish LNB mounting collar.
Whilst this would be all well and good if you, or a local specialist engineer, was fitting this LNB, do not expect a Sky engineer to fit non standard components. Whatever the age of your existing dish the Sky installaion engineer will be prepared to replace whatever is required for you.
Godfrey.

So it sounds like the one from your link is all I need.
There’s always more to think about than you realise!😁
Thanks for taking the time to reply – it is much appreciated.👍

Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note
Thank you so much for this. I've had so much trouble with Sky+HD recently through Sky cancelling the wrong card and then sending me another a wrong replacement card that I've nearly succumbed and accepted the free upgrade to Q and I'm now really glad that I haven't! I have a Freesat box in the bedroom but, more importantly given the hybrid cable option, is the fact I use RF2 duplicate my Sky HD in my office. I don't need Multiscreen but I very much appreciate being able to do this.

Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note
Can I just chip in on this thread and say main reason for upgrading from SKY+ HD to Sky Q is the free Disney+ with Ads.
Just cancelled the Sky Q install (As i didnt want to loose the Magic-Eye functionality) and now I have lost the package selection for Disney+ so might need to take this on the chin and find a HDMI to RF modulator if I am to have a similar function.
Was going to get a 1TB UHD box as well..

Have 2 connections 1 hdmi to TV second VGA to a second TV hard wired but only with 1 Box Magic Eye use is for Controlling the second TV functions find that a cheaper tariff instead of paying 2 box es with SKYQ
Disney plus you might be able to log into on app with a sky subscription

Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note
I've requested a hybrid lnb for my SKYQ ugrade tomorrow from 2 Sky + boxes with multiroom, as I also have freesat currently.
Would I be able to leave one of the existing sky plus boxess connected to the hybrid lnb, in order to access FTA channels, and also the existing recordings on the box?

@Antiguaman yes, you would be able to watch the FTA channels on a Sky+ box, but the recording service requires a Sky+ subscription so you would be unable to record or watch recorded programmes.

Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note
I requested it from sky when placing the upgrade, not 100% the call handler understood but he did apparently speak to the technical team and assured me the "engineer" would have one with him tomorrow when he comes to carry out the installation
Guess what the first thing is I will be checing when he/she gets out of the van 😉

I wish you luck - SKY officially stopped offering them & stocking them a while back (probably around 2 years ago) after my initial notes here were made.
The chances are very high that the adviser did not know what you were asking for - even when they were available many advisers did not know what they are.
Personally I doubt if any engineers still have them but fingers crossed for you.
I guess if the engineer doesn't have one, one of your options would be to make sure they leave the old connections to the 2nd box at the dish end & then get an independent installer to switch the new Wideband LNB for a Hybrid later.
