Steel bird spikes on satellite dish LNB arm and dish support arm

I want to stop magpies from roosting on my Sky satellite dish. They settle on the support arm only at this time and not on the LNB arm. I have some steel defender spikes which I successfully used to stop seagulls sitting on the the roof ridge. Can I use these same steel spikes on the both the dish arm and the LNB arm without affecting reception.

I know plastic spikes would have no risk to the reception but I simply would like to use the steel spikes already in my possession.  I've spoken to the manufacturers who state they have no evidence that the steel spikes would cause a reception problem, nevertheless the plastic spikes are thos recommended.

Has anyone done what I propose with steel spikes and what is your experience regards signal reception please?

Thanks, Ed

Which Sky satellite television platform as you using?

This isn't really an issue for the Protect forum (which relates to Sky-branded insurance products)

As this is dish related, I would assume it's Sky Q.

Re: Steel bird spikes on satellite dish LNB arm and dish support arm

I am a Sky Q user with a satellite dish. From expereince I can now confirm that steel bird spikes mounted on both arms of the dish do not interfere with the signal one iota. The spikes have been 100% successful having detred the most persistent magpies from roosting.

Hope this is useful to others pondering the wiseness of mounting steel spikes on the dish arms.
