Just watched 40 minutes of Food Network including 3.5 ad breaks and sound didn't drop out once? Main Q box, HDMI to a Yamaha amp, dolby digital+ setting.

Interesting.  I guess there must be some slight incompatibility on some amps (seems like multiple brands are affected based on reading around).  My guess is there is a small audio gap between ads and the encoding changes (not sure to what) then back to dolby digital.  The amp takes a while to react (in and out of the gap) and hence you get the audio go off for about 2 secs.

Really annoying.

Yeah maybe although my amp displayed multichannel audio throughout.

Really, odd but if I plumb the optical from Q to Game input on amp, no problem!  That's the way i've been running it for years, but LG, in their wisdom on my new TV, now dont allow optical out at the same time as HDMI-ARC is able to control the amp's volume via HDMI.  So I can have no gaps but no volume control OR gaps and volume control.  Argggghhhh!

Hi @Pete+Sleeman

Thanks for reaching out

Thsi particular issue was identified to be specific to Channel 5 and was resolved when my post regarding it was made 🙂

If you take your sound system out of the equation altogether and use only your TV speakers / change your audio settings on the Sky Q box to standard, does the issue still occur or does it stop?

Hi Daniel

Deffo the "normal" and Dolby Dig and Dig + settings on Q box all do the same.  Reckon if tried every single combo.

TV speaker...good question, will check tonight...never tried it but good test!  I'll bet its fine!  Others on t'internet seem to have the same issue but only on external amps, but from multiple brands like LG, sony, sonos etc etc.  Its a really common complaint.

TV speaker is fine.  So as suspected its some interaction between Q box and amp 😞

Any ideas?

Breakthrough!

Remeber I'd said that game input via optical was always OK...no hiccups.  But new LG TV wouldnt allow optical out and remote control of the amp via HDMI at the same time....yes it does.  Via a weird route.  Might help someone

Go into TV settings, general, devices, external devices, universal control settings.  I hadn't noticed that optical is in that list, scrolled off the bottom of the screen.  Select it, then run the tests and hey presto, amp can be controlled via remote.  Then select optical out as playback device.  It works!

Phew!
