Sound bar not coming on automatically with new Sky Q

I have bought an optical cable as engineer suggested, and it is now connected between Sky Q box and Samsung sound bar. I have set it up in Samsung TV settings and it is working. However as soon as I switch off TV - when I switch on again the sound reverts to coming out of TV speaker Not Sound bar.

Do you not have the option of HDMI?  Optical has no control protocols like HDMI (CEC).

 

You may need to give more detail of the particular models and how they are connected.  But seems like a TV configuration issue atm.

Hi @Morgans1 

Afraid Optical Cable does not have CEC control which is only achieved through HDMI connections.

Have you also connected the Soundbar to the TV by HDMI connection through Arc or eArc?

I don't know what Arc or eArc is?  My Sound Bar does not have an HDMI slot.

ARC stands for Audio Return Channel and is used to send the Sound from the TV (& connected sources) to Sound Equipment (eARC being  a more recent enhanced version)

 

Some sound bars now only have an (e)ARC connection

 

If your TV and Sound bar do have ARC connections (which they probably do if made in the last few years) then this should work for you but it does depend on the TV and can sometimes give Lip Synch problems

 

BTW often there is only one designated ARC HDMI connection on TVs (although again some more modern ones can use ARC on all)

 

Does your sound bar not have any HDMI connection at all  or just an additional input to one connected to the TV?

Did anyone manage to resolve this, had sky q fitted last week and connects through hdmi to sound bar but once power is off we need to plug it all in again and start from scratch!!! Its got us puzzled 🤨
