SkyQ not available in my building

How can I get skyQ available in my building? We have sky already but when we tried to upgrade to skyQ we were told it is not available in our building

@Mo+abdelHow do you know Q is not available, with many comunal dishes Sky can make changes which allow Q to work.

However if you can't have Q the only solutions if you want Sky is to get either "glass" or "streaming" both of which work entirely over the internet BUT do some research as they are very different to Q.

Re: SkyQ not available in my building

I did check with Sky more than once, and I keep getting the same answer that it is not available. Not sure why!

I will check streaming as it could be a good option.

@Mo+abdel  When a building has an old Legacy communal Integratred Reception System installation which presently just supports a Freesat / Sky+HD receiver, then if the quality of the system is adequate, and the building management agree, Sky can usually install a Unitron dCSS-422 Sky Q Plug-In adaptor within the central communal IRS distribution cabinet that serves your flat.

So, was it your building management agent who informed you that Sky Q reception was not presently available, or did they then inform you that they were not willing to allow a Sky Multiple Development Unit (MDU) trained engineer to install a Unitron dCSS-422 Sky Q Plug-In adaptor in order to provide your flat with a suitable Single Cable Router (SCR) feed for a Sky Q receiver installation in your flat.

If your building management are willing to allow a Sky MDU trained engineer to install a Unitron dCSS-422 Sky Q Plug-In adaptor, I would suggest that you contact Sky once again in order to provide this information to Sky, hopefully, if the quality of your communal IRS installation is adequate, Sky will then be able to progress a Sky Q adaptor installation for you.

Re: SkyQ not available in my building

I only heard from Sky saying that SkyQ is not possible. I will reach out to the building management and ask the question.

@Mo+abdelI am not sure how Sky can know unless an installer comes out as any number of changes may have been made by whatever contractor the management agent uses, even if originally someone in the building tried to get Q and Sky put it can't be done on their database.

Re: SkyQ not available in my building

I am in the same boat but the building management company say that the changes for Sky to accommodate Sky Q are cost prohibitive as only 10 of 80 occupants wish for the service. How much does Sky charge to upgrade the system?

Re: SkyQ not available in my building

Got a call from Sky yesterday and agreed to an upgrade to Sky q with a free additional minibix thrown in. Lo and behold, my HA have said no. They don't want ariels on the sude of the building. Admittedly he lady who called from Sky didn't mention anything about a dish at all, but hey... Now, I'm wondering what my options are. My Sky+HD box seems to be on it's last legs.😮💨

@JustcallmeGina

If your building management company won't allow individual dishes and a communal dish is not Sky Q capable then your Sky options will be Glass or Stream but research them fully first and it's a totally different viewing experience.

Re: SkyQ not available in my building

Thanks for your advice. It makes perfectly good sense. I spoke to Sky again. The woman did her best to explain the differences to me, but I've a feeling I'm going to have to just wait until my box dies. I cannot afford Sky Glass. To be honest I watch the Hindi speaking channel almost exclusively. Sod's law, Sky Stream doesn't offer any of the ones I watch! (Utsav Plus, Colors Rishtey, etc) Also, I hate the idea that I have to depend on WiFi to watch TV. Not a very happy bunny at the moment. 😔

Unlike Sky Q when you only loan the equipment, Sky HD+ equipment is yours to keep. Consequently you can legally purchase a replacement from any good online auction house if your current box dies.

Re: SkyQ not available in my building

Good advice. There are oodles of refurbished boxes and controllers available to buy on line.

Saying  that,  The Sky engineer replaced my old HD+ box with a 1tb one foc when he realised he could not install Skt Q in the building.

hi @JustcallmeGina

I know you are not considering SKY Glass but just to clear up any doubt - SKY Glass & SKY Stream have the same channels - SKY Glass is basically SKY Stream within a TV  rather than a separate box

Can I just check is your SKY HD box fed from a communal system - if so has there been any discussion about installing an 'adapter' to allow SKY Q to work or is it know thiat this cannot be done ?

Unfortunately replacement SKY HD boxes can now only be used for viewing (only)  the Free To AIr (FTA) channels as SKY no longer allow pairing a subscription card to any box that it was not paired to as at last October
