SkyQ dropping out....set up in Feb 25...never experienced this before with my old sky box

I was given a SkyQ box in Feb 25.  Upgrading from my good old Sky HD box, which I never had any problems with before like this!

When watching, the screen goes blank for a few seconds (without sound), and then repeats and then is fine for some minutes, does it all again and then is fine for quite some time.  And then will do it all again.  No timeline can be put on this ie it can be on for 10 mins and then it happens...its just random but defo getting worse.  Sometimes though it will do it so repeatively and than it shows on the screen.... 'This screen does not spport HDCP. Try reconnecting your HDMI cable or use a different screen', so I have to turn off the Sky Q box and turn back on and we're fne again for a while.

This system was set up by a Sky engineer.  Oh and then to add salt to the wounds, I have had on a number of occasions had to reconnect Sky to my internet...re-entering my password etc, but then when it goes into one of it's blank screen for seconds, repeatedly, I have to re-start all over again.  This comes from saying its not connected to my to wifi but there are no issues with other devices and this very rarely happend with my good old HD box. There are no problems with my internet connection whatsoever....I'm so disappointed with this SkyQ.

Have you spoken to Sky about it since February? What have they suggested?

Not yet....due to the fact you can hardly speak to an actual person anymore, so thought I would just put it out on the community forum first as this is what it was being pushed to!

Oh and initially it was all okay...but it's been in recent months, again no actual timeline as initially you don't register this these things until it starts to really start.  If it had happened from day 1....I would have been on it.  In hindsight, it's been a gradual thing and now more excessive.

@Gettingfedup does it happen on live tv or recordings/downloads or both?

Actually from my recordings.....I rarely watch live TV.  Maybe I should test if its also from live TV tonight. I'll do that now.  Wish me luck!

From your description it sounds like you may have a failing or faulty hard drive. 

 

You could try resetting it as described here, but beware of what it says about losing recordings and settings.

If that doesn't resolve it, you'll need a replacement box, I think.

Hey Mark....thank you. I really appreciate your advice and help and the prompt responses.  It really beats going through a possible call centre (if your lucky)to tell you to switch off/unplug/which i've already done! Anyway thanks.

I would try a new hdmi cable. It shouldn't be that since live tv doesn't seem to be affected but it's cheap and the symptoms match.
