Sky tv with q box in stone barn.

Hi,

I would like to install a tv in a stone barn next to the house. There is no wifi there.

Could I just run an external ethernet cable to the barn and plug it into a mini q box and connect that to a television,  or is it not that simple?

Hi @Patouman

If you are on Sky Broadband then yes you can just run an Ethernet cable from router to mini.

However if on 3rd party Broadband then you need either to run the Ethernet cable from the main Q box or connect both the main box and mini by Ethernet to the router.

Hi oldfella,

Thanks, we are with BT and the router is at the back of the house (furthest point away from the bar ). However, the Sky box is on the side of the house closest to the barn.

So if I run an ethernet cable from the main sky q box to the mini q box in the barn that should do the trick ?

If so, that's a lot easier!

Yes that should work @Patouman

When the mini box is connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all mini box WiFi.

Carry out a  network reset on the mini with the Ethernet connected.

Network Reset found in mininbox Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.

If it doesn't connect there is an issue with the Ethernet.

As soon as it connects go into the mini box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden mini menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.
