Sky tv in garden room

Hi, we have just had an ethernet cable fitted in a garden room but the mini box in the house won't connect. Everytime I try, it disconnects the main sky q box. Has anyone got any advice? Thank you

Hi @KH04

Who is your broadband supplier and to what is the Ethernet cable connected?

Hi, our broadband provider is BT. The ethernet cable is coming straight from the BT hub and into the back of the tv in the garden room. We did plug it directly into the mini box but couldn't get it to work and then the main box kept disconnecting!

OK @KH04

On 3rd party broadband you can't connect a mini by Ethernet to your router unless all Q boxes are connected by Ethernet.

If your main Q box is on WiFi then you need to connect the Ethernet from the mini to the main Q box.

Thank you, this sounds confusing! So having an ethernet cable into the garden room is pointless to be able to get the mini box to work?

As I said @KH04

In your case it needs to connected to your main Q box unless you can also get the main Q box connected by Ethernet to the router.

There is also the option to use the  mini box connected your router by Ethernet and then use 2 Powerline units.  One connected to the router and one at the main Q box.

This would effectively put the main Q box Ethernet connected to your router.

However you must bear in that Powerline is not guaranteed and depends heavily on the condition and complexity of your mains circuit.
