Sky+ to Sky Q upgrade block
Hi, I've decided I finally need to upgrade from Sky+ to Sky Q. I tried to do this a few years ago, but the Sky engineer who came to the house took one look at the dish - on top of our tall victorian house - and said I would have to get a private engineer to do the dish work. I decided it wasn't worth it and stayed with Sky+.
Having now decided to make the change, I have a private contractor lined up but this afternoon Sky have just told me a new memo has gone round to say Sky will no longer allow Sky Q installations involving 3rd parties in any way. They have to do all the work themsleves. But I will have exactly the same issue if I rebook the whole thing through Sky.
What should I do please?
For info - I absolutely don't want to move to Sky Stream or Sky Glass, neither system provides the functionality I need (I work in news and rely on being able to record a lot of news programmes which aren't always available on their normal host platforms).
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Sky Q installation block
I've decided to finally move from Sky+ to Sky Q but have hit an unexpected obstacle.
I tried to upgrade a few years ago but when the Sky engineer came to the house, he said the dish was too high on the roof for him to access and that I'd need a private contractor. I decided not to bother with the upgrade and stuck with Sky+.
Now I definitely would like to move to Sky Q and have lined up a private satellite engineer to do the dish work. But today Sky have told me they're now unable to authorise any Sky Q installations which require any 3rd party involvement (apparently it's a v recent decision).
I will be back to square 1 though if I try to do everything through Sky.
Does anyone have advice on what I should do?
For info, I absolutely don't want to move to Sky Stream or Glass as the systems don't have the functionality I require (I work in news and need to record a lot of news programmes/bulletins which aren't always available on the host broadcaster platforms).
Any advice gratefully received.

Sorry I don't have any advice but AFAIK it has been 'official' policy not to install SKY Q with a third party installed dish for several years
We did query this as Communal systems are provided by 3rd parties but, as I say, the policy came back saying that they would not install unless they had full control should anything go wrong - I think this is due to SKY Q not being owned by customers and SKY engineers having to support any faults
We know that sometimes, if not often, installers have been flexible on this but we believe technically this is against policy

Re: Sky Q installation block
Thanks that's really helpful.
At the moment I don't see a way to even get a Sky installer to the house - whether they're flexible or not - as Sky won't let me order the new system.
Really frustrating but thanks again

Re: Sky Q installation block
@crawfiej10 Can the new dish be installed at a lower height at all? It may mean you'd need to remove the older dish unless planning allows 2 dishes on the property.
