Sky remote volume button is turning box off.

I have the same problem. I've replaced (at my own expense) the remote control and re-paired the device several times with no change. Problem happens intermittently on terrestrial channels usually when the programme has been paused. Since the Sky Q box is turned off, everything that was 'saved' through the pause action is then lost. 
I believe the problem to be the Sky Q Box.

Please advise next steps

This seems to have stopped it for me, at least it's not happened since implementing

I didn't have the chance to do as advised but implemented the recommended fix. I lost the ability to change the volume on my Sky remote so had to use the volume button on my Toshiba remote. However....  live pause fails if you press the Play button and then adjust the volume, losing everything that was paused as you go back to the TV Guide.  If you adjust the volume after playing something recorded, it also goes back to the Tv Guide. I appreciate that this is a First World problem but it is still frustrating and a recent change to my functionality. I've reset the brand new Sky remote multiple times....

Yes. This is happening to us too on a Sky Q box. Once every few days, and alway when you don't want it to happen. 

We missed the live Space X chopstick landing at the critical moment the other day. Very frustrating.

Yes, this has been happening to me as well.  It's on a Panasonic TV in the kitchen with another Sky box; the main one is in the living room.  It's seems to happen mainly just after turning on the sky box and increasing the volume, but it happens at other times as well whist watching a programme.  I have not noticed it when watching via apps.  I have just turned off Smart Standby mode so fingers crossed.

Oh please do let me know how you get on. It's definitely a Sky problem as it doesn't happen when I'm watching Netflix or YouTube.

This has just happened to me. Was watching discovery app on a sky Q mini, turned the volume up, on TV remote, and sky turned off. The TV stayed on

I've just tried this and will see what happens but as with the other users I have had exactly the same issues. It's intermittent and tends to happen just after I have switch sky on and used the volume button for the first time after switching on. I'll monitor and post again

Great so far.

After months of problems and me trying every fix that they told me over the phone (none worked).

An engineer came out and after deliberation told me that the "new" box they sent me never had a fan so was warm.

Feel the box and if it is warm ask for a new fan assisted box.

This has been fine for over a month now so hopefully cured.

I tried the fix as suggested and so far, the problem of the volume button turning off the sky box has not returned

my smart standby mode is on but there is no way of turning it to off as people have said. How do you do this?
