Sky remote not turning off LG soundbar

Hi all, 

can anyone help me! My sky remote will not turn off my soundbar even though I have set the remote to control both the tv and the sound bar... it worked perfectly until yesterday until my dog stepped on the remote... 

any help would be greatly appreciated !

Check that both your TV & sound bar have got HDMI control set on.

Unfortunately it may not be 100% obvious what the seeting is - on My panasonic it is called Viera link

Do I have to have a hdmi cable connecting to both ? Thanks for your reply

Yes - the SKY remote will only power on/off the TV & it relies on HDMI control to switch the sound bar

Optical cables only carry the audio signal and can't be used for control

I know.... I should have said that I'm getting audio from the soundbar... it's just the sky remote won't turn off the tv and the sound bar when I do a long press on the power button
