Re: Sky q switches off - 15/05

I know it's been mentioned by others, but these posts are getting buried quickly.

For those who've updated (either last night or this morning) and find their box is stuck in standby mode, there's a fair chance your remote needs re-pairing. Try switching your box on at the box itself. Then to re-pair remote, press and hold 7+9 until infrared light flashes, then press 1+3 together to re-pair.

Re: Sky q switches off - 15/05

As with everbody else our main Sky Q box crashed at approx. 21:30.  I wasn't able to restart it by holding down the standby button (on the box), so I pulled the plug and let it reboot.

We went off to bed while it was rebooting and I started to watch Taskmaster on our Sky Q mini in the bedroom, but after 10 minutes or so (so approx. 21:45-22:00) it stopped playing saying it couldn't connect to the main Sky Q box.  I guess it had crashed again, I just turned the Sky Q mini off and went to bed.

Woke up about 06:30, went downstairs and the main Sky Q box was indeed non-responsive.  It was in stand-by and the recording light was on.  I pulled the plug, waited a couple of minutes and plugged it back in.

It's been fine ever since.  Was able to watch the news and download from catch-up the programs it had failed to record during the night (Taskmaster, Chicago Med & Chicago Fire).

Does anybody know what it was?  Some dodgy piece of XML sent to the boxes for a UI update or something???  15 pages is a bit much to read to see if anything was posted as to the reaason.

My sky remote control has dies since last night. I've changed the batteries but nothing. I can turn on my sky q box using the standby button on the box but can't do anything else as the remote control is dead. I've tried the 7 + 9, 1 + 3 button thing, but nothing. Anyone else having the same problem?

hi @Damien1975

did you male sure that the red led flashed after holding & pressing 7 & 9 ?

Also, once it is reset above you do need to make sure it is pointing directly at the box as it uses Infrared until re-paired

My remote control light is not lighting up, no matter what buttons I press on it, or for how long

Are you sure you're doing it right? This was the problem I had but re-pairing worked for me. Make sure the infrared light on the remote flashes after 7+9, then make sure you have a clear line to the box when you do the 1+2 re-pair.

Edit: Did you put the new batteries in the right way?

hi @Damien1975

the red led above the SKY logo button should flash a few times after pressing & holding 7 & 9 together for several seconds

If it doesn't maybe there is, also, fault with the remote

I've had the news on all morning whilst working and the Sky Q box has been fine ... but now an error has appeared stating that the viewing card cannot be read. Anyone else experiencing this too?

So annoying we pay enough for our sky services, the Internet often disconnects, they are quick enough taking our money so should reimburse us some how as we paid for the sky Q box to go down, I decided i couldn't watch tv so went upstairs put the radio on alexa so the wifi went down, not at all happy.

Q for quizzical ?

My Sky Q box went in to stand by 3 times last night,  but Sky Go on my Chromebook still worked. This is the second time this has happened this year.  When I tried to look on the Sky web site, it wouldn't let me sign in.  I've had Q for 8 months now  and sometimes wish I'd stuck with the hd+ box.

Yep, pretty sure. I've held the buttons down, whilst standing 2 foot away from the sky q box...no lights show on my remote control

Sky q and mini box not working

My SkyQ box stopped working last night (15/05/25), consequently my mini box stopped as well. On the main box there is a permanent red light on we're the record light is and the box will not switch on. We tried new batteries in the remote, but no joy.

Hi @Damien1975   Does the light come on when you press the "?" key?
