Sky q remote asking for password

I have a skq Q with mini boxes (multiroom) and recently decided to give sky glass a try. Couldn't get on with it for whatever reason but since re-instating sky Q when I try to use the input source button on the remotes it asks me for a password.  I've tried the sky pin, the default tv codes but nothing. I've also reset the main box & the remotes by pushing 7 & 9 together, then 1&3 but this hasn't solved it.

It was working on the various Tv's before so its left me baffled.

Any idea please?

Hi @Triggerx

Certainly nothing to do with Sky Q or the remote.

It would seem to related to your television.

See what Google says.

If your TV is asking for a password, it's likely due to a lock feature, parental controls, or a setting related to Wi-Fi connectivity. Here's how to address it:
1. Check for Lock or Parental Controls:
  • Many TVs have a lock feature that requires a password to access settings or certain functions. Go to your TV's settings menu and look for a "System Lock" or "Parental Controls" option. If it's enabled, you may need to enter a password to access these settings.

  • If you don't remember the password, try the default password, which is often 0000 or 1234, according to a post on Reddit.

2. Wi-Fi Password Issues:
  • If your TV is trying to connect to Wi-Fi, it may be asking for the network password. Double-check that the password you're entering is correct and try again.
  • If you've changed your Wi-Fi password recently, you'll need to enter the new password in your TV's settings to reconnect.

3. Resetting Passwords (if necessary):
  • LG TVs:
Some LG TVs have a master password for resetting other passwords. Try pressing "up, up, down, up" on the remote and entering the master password (usually 0313) to reset the system lock password to the default, says a video on YouTube.

  • Samsung TVs:
You can reset the PIN code in Samsung's settings by pressing the menu button, selecting System, scrolling down, and choosing "Change PIN," says Samsung's support page.

4. Check for AirPlay Security:
  • If you're using AirPlay on an Apple TV and are prompted for a password, it might be due to a security setting requiring device verification, says Apple Support. You can adjust this in AirPlay settings.

If none of these steps work, it's best to consult your TV's manual or contact the manufacturer's support for assistance.

Re: Sky q remote asking for password

Thank you for your detailed reply. After a bit more trial & error playing about with it, I've managed to sort it.

It all came down to which number it uses when programming the sky q remote with the tv.

When I pressed 1&3 and selected 'find the number for me' I initially confirmed the first one that worked with the volume, but input button was asking for a password. This time I tried the other codes that worked with the tv and now it's allowing the use of the input source button again. .

The wrong code must have had that butron sending something an IR code to the TV which was for a protected part of the menu, rather than simulating the TV remote's "input source"
