Sky q freezing up and going blank, unresponsive until restart

I am having lots of problems with my sky q box over the last few days.

It freezes up with a blank screen.

I keep having to unplug and restart it.

then it takes ages for the thumbnails to appear, channel changing is very sluggish, eventually not responding at all. The next day again it all freezes up and I need another restart.

any ideas? I have no issues with my broadband or satellite, the box itself thinks everything is ok if I check under settings. The app doesn't see any issues.

Could the software be corrupt?

Hi @Vbs

Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Thanks so much for this.

It does seem better after the settings reset.

I haven't had to restart it today.

I'll see how it goes.

Re: Sky q freezing up and going blank, unresponsive until restart

Still got lots of issues with this.

the tv channels go blank and changing channels becomes unresponsive the next day, and again I have to power off and on. It sometimes says there is a technical fault with any channel I'm trying to view.

Even video playback like Netflix and YouTube is affected (no playback) until I reboot.

should I just call customer support?

I have had this box for years but this persistent problem only started a couple of weeks ago.

Any luck resolving this? Also getting the same issue. Must be a fault with some boxes? Very annoying as sky can't come out for another week 🙄

Re: Sky q freezing up and going blank, unresponsive until restart

I have been too lazy to report it to Sky yet.

It got better on its own in that I no longer need to restart the box daily. I didn't do anything special.

The box in general is not super responsive.
