Sky q box not working with hdmi switch

Sky q box not working when signal sent through hdmi splitter. I have Nintendo switch and sky q box connected to switch but sky q will only work if Nintendo is on. If turn Nintendo off sky q stops working aswell. Have tried changing audio visual settings from 1080p to 1080i on sky box it didn't make a difference. Eco mode is off aswell on sky box as these are things some people have said works.

Any advice welcome just want to have sky q box and Nintendo switch connected to TV to save switching cable all the time.

Is it unpowered splitter?

Yeah it's a blackweb 3 into 1 switch.

Unpowered switches are unlikely to work. You need an independently powered switch.

That would suggest the Nintendo is supplying enough power over HDMI for the HDMI switch to function, but the Q box cannot.  There's no setting available on the Q box which will improve this situation.

Yeah just need a better HDMI switch (not splitter, that does the opposite)

Yup, you'll need a powered switch.  I run a small network switch from the USB on the mini - it may supply enough to power a HDMI switch (whereas HDMI cannot).

I think it's about 50mA, otherwise you'll need external supply.

Re: Sky q box not working with hdmi switch

Hi @hawkins6685

My TV (Sony Bravia 2017) supports 4k HDR and works with the Sky Q box fine on 10 bit, although only 2 of the HDMI ports support HDR (2 and 3). One of those is the Arc port that I use for a sound bar that means that I only have one available HDMI port for HDR reception. About 6 months ago I purchased a Firestick 4k Max and on odd occasions that I want to use the Firestick this meant that to get full usage I had to switch plugs.

To try and get round this I purchased a Tealkoo unmanaged HDMI switch (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Splitter-Aluminum-Switcher-Bi-directional-FireStick-Black/dp/B09MHL126R0) thinking that if it didn't work since it was only £6.60 no big deal. Surprise, surprise it works perfectly. Have to push a button on the switch to change connections but that is a lot simpler than changing HDMI plugs.

Whether this is influenced by the TV model I cannot say.

@mappionAlmost any switch should work however the OP was using a splitter which is a whole different problem.

Re: Sky q box not working with hdmi switch

Hi @bob1234 . Makes sense about the splitter, but it seems to me that rather than using a splitter a simple switch would seem a much better solution that would work in these circumstances, e.g. 2 different devices connected to the single connection on the TV.

I don't think they were, I think they used that term by mistake.
