Sky q WiFi to Ethernet

I was wondering is the following is possible.

could I use a WiFi to Ethernet adapter to plug into the sky q box, then disable the WiFi broadcast as this is causing major lag/high ping on gaming and slow streaming on other devices. When I unplug the sky q box I no longer have the these issues. I know how to disable the broadcast after some research but I know the sky q box must first connected to the router directly. Would an adapter work?

I have sky fibre also.

I was hoping this would be a viable workaround.

If anyone knows if this is possible or has done this I would much appreciate some help.

Hi @Tim101

Don't know what you mean by a WiFi to Ethernet Adaptor.

You can connect the Q box directly to the router by using an Ethernet cable.

Alternativly you may be able to use Powerline units to connect your Q box.

One would need to plugged in near,  and connected to your router by Ethernet cable.

Another would need to be plugged in near and connected to your Q box by Ethernet.

Powerline is not guaranteed and depends heavily on the condition and complexity of your mains circuit.

Full Ethernet connection is ideal if at all possible.

If you can connect by Ethernet or Powerline then all Q box WiFi can be turned off (provided of course that you have no mini boxes on WiFi)

Re: Sky q WiFi to Ethernet

Thank you for your reply.

Due the the router and sky Q box being some distance and 1 floor apart I am looking for a more elegant solution than simply running a long ethernet cable through the house.

I've looked at the powerline setup and whilst it should work in our house as its a new build, I wanted to explore alternatives in case it doesn't.

The adapter is a small device that plugs into the mains for power. It would connect to the router via wifi for its data connection and has an ethernet connection that I could plug the sky q box into. This would then enable me to turn of the wifi broadcast option which is causing issues.

I am asking if anyone has done this before, has it worked and is there a particular device/brand that works better than others.

It would be great to hear back from anyone that has tried this.

Thanks

There's a recent thread on here where someone is using a tp-link wifi extender to do that. I use a BT Wholehome mesh node to do the same.

What do you mean about turning the broadcast off? Not heard about this (in spite of many years fighting Q's wifi foibles)
