Sky is in ex husbands name and I want to upgrade
The sky contract is in my ex husbands name but I have been paying for Sky since he left a number of years ago. I want to upgrade to Sky Q but is it as easy as ringing and saying I want to upgrade even though the contract is in my ex hubands name? He now lives abroad and I'm not contacting him just so he can sort out a Sky Contract.

Re: Sky is in ex husbands name and I want to upgrade
@BeckyBB No one on here can answer that with 100% accuracy
the only thing you can do is attempt to upgrade and see how you get on
one thing is certain though you will not be able to cancel any service has you are not the account holder

Re: Sky is in ex husbands name and I want to upgrade
@pengedragon Op can't join as a new customer whilst there is an active account at the same address which only the account holder can cancel
cancelling the direct debit won't help at all has it doesn't cancel a contract and only prevents op from using current service

Re: Sky is in ex husbands name and I want to upgrade
I'm sure quite a few customers have found themselves is a similar predicament. If you were to stop payments, the current Sky services will be restricted, late payment fees will be added and both you and your ex wouldn't be able to speak to Sky on the phone. The account holder will be chased for payment but as Sky believe his address to be the account address any correspondence from Sky, or further down the line a debt recovery company, will be sent to your address.
I think initially you need to call Sky (if you know the telephone password Sky will ask for) and discuss your options but like @SKY1992bf has said you can't cancel your ex's subscription
