Sky extend Sky Q cable with a spilter gone wrong

Hi

Im in Ireland, usually when I post on here it's best to mention that because answers are slightly different to the UK.

I rang Sky a few months back because we moved our tv to the front room and he came out drilled a hole in the wall and used a splitter then to extend it the new room. I asked him will that work and he said no problem but so temperamental since it's been done. Finally now with all the new furniture I'd prefer to have a solid connection.

At the time I was 3 months waiting for broadband so it was completely free.

Would Sky come out and run a new cable from the satellite dish the same way as when the dish was put up last July when we moved in so that the cable would be long enough to reach the tv without a splitter and can that be done.

any help be appreciated , thanks

What sort of splitter? Was it just an extension of the satellite cables, or the HDMI output from the Q itself?

Re: Sky extend Sky Q cable with a spilter gone wrong

Hi, thanks for what you have done. The Sky employee came out and drilled a hole in the wall and put the cable through to my front room and then just connected the cables together and then extended into my Q box. No splitter was used it was just two cables connected into another cable. I have removed the extra cable because the signal was so poor.

so now my sky box is stuck in the corner off the room because the wire is only about 3ft coming out off the wall but my signal is perfect again but obviously I need a longer cable to reach where the tv was before.

any help be appreciated

It was just an extension off the cables , no splitter just connected original cable to another cable and into the sky q box if that makes sense

It does make sense, but you said "splitter" in the opening post, hence my question.

Normally extending satellite cables is easy and reliable. You could try doing it yourself again, maybe the cable he used is faulty. You can just add a bit of satellite grade paired coax and use the F-type connectors he must have used (though I'd be tempted to get new ones in case the problem was with them)

Just have to take care that the outer cable braid does not come into contact with the inner core at all, and that you don't bend the core, it's possible to snap it if you're clumsy.

like this (by the way there is no way you'll cut it this cleanly first time so give yourself a bit of extra length to play with 😄)

I don't mind buying the cable even though I'd expect Sky not to have a faulty cable.

would I be better off getting a splitter and some cable, is it a better option?

You could try a longer hdmi cable

maybe. They're good for up to about 10m if hdmi 2.1 certified.

don't seem to need a splitter. Not quite sure what you mean by that last question.
