Sky don't want my Sky Q box returned

Hello,

We have cancelled our Sky signature package and will no longer be having sky tv. I was told over the phone I would have to return the Q box (which I am fine with as i dont need it) . However, I then recieved an email from sky saying I dont need to return the Q box and can keep it or recycle it. Is this a new policy?

Is there anything I can do with the box or is it useless without the subcription?

We understand that under certain circumstances Sky won't request the return of some Sky Q boxes which is a very recent change and doesn't apply in all cases.

No, it's a brick without a subscription.

However, I wouldn't get rid of it yet.  The only thing I can think of that it's an 'old' (non-UHD?) box they don't want back.

Thanks for the replies. That's interesting, I will hang on to it then for now and see what happens.

Yeah, it is an old box. Maybe 4 years I have had it. Not sure if it had UHD, I dont use it.

Q box (television) or Q Hub (broadband)?

The difference is crucial.

Sky no longer requires return of ER110/115 Q Hubs (2016 internet router) because those are becoming obsolete this year.

The television Q box , as i'm no longer paying for Sky tv. I'm still using the broadband as they gave me a good deal for now.

We've been advised that Sky is no longer requiring the return of some Q television boxes (although they have zero functionality and no resale value if retained)

There's information on a post-paid method for returning such things to Sky for recycling towards the bottom of the page here:
