I have Sky Q and have done for a number of years.
Recently whenever I setup wifi network (via 2.4 or 5GHz access points) on my main box or mini box it works for 10 minutes then resets and connects to my very low signal Sky router. I have tried disabling the wifi on my Sky router and reconnecting to the access points and this again connects fine and then 10 minutes later stops working entirely.
Are Sky Q boxes and Sky mini boxes hard coded to look for Sky routers or wifi?
The Access points are bought specifially to boost the wifi signal from my sky broadband router (albeit different SSID)

Yes, as detailed above

If those aren't Sky hardware, Mini boxes won't stay connected to them.

This seems to the case and is essentially my question, why not?
My Sky wifi is poor which is why I upgraded it, if I didn't have Sky Broadband at all would this mean it doesn't work on wireless?

@Lee53 no in answer to your question when Sky is not your broadband provider the mini boxes connect to your main Q box by way of a mesh generated by the main Q box

Again, back to my original question
Why, when I connect my main box to an alternate wifi, does it run for 10 minutes and then disconnect that and re-connect to my sky wifi

Because that's how they were designed and built back in 2014-15 for release in early 2016.
It's worth remembering that consumer use of WiFi (and particularly 'booster' hardware) was drastically less back then, and Q was a relatively early attempt at a standalone proprietary mesh solution originally intended to use built-in Powerline networking between the nodes to supplement wireless communication.
