Sky Q wifi speeds

I have an interesting case where my sky q was working fine connected via ethernet, the cable was quite an old one running outside the house which isnt a good idea btw as it was a cat5 cable.

Things got slow and I figured maybe the cable had stoppef working so I ran a speed test with and without then cable plugged in.

The speed was significantly quicker with the cable although looking at the router the lights for that port were off. The ethernet cable was not working but plugging it in did affect the speed.

I unplugged the cable at the router end this time and the speed when connected to the Q box was slow but quicker than if I unplug the cable from the Q box.

My only conclusion is the antenna is somehow extended by the cable being plugged in.

Btw, I replaced the cable with one that runs internally and is cat8 which will benefit in the future. Everything working perfectly now.

I don't think that's a possible function of an ethernet port.

Re: Sky Q wifi speeds

Well I think I would say its not a recommended implementation of an ethernet port but from my perspective that seems to be the case.

Re: Sky Q wifi speeds

The only plausible explanation would be that your outside cable was damaged in such a way that it was causing a electrical issue with the hub.
