I found the problem the home cinema system.  I removed the home cinema from the setup and everything worked fine. I presumed the fault was with the audio through Sky Q into home cinema.  After a few trial and error settings eventually found the one that worked for me.

Why did you connect the Q to the ARC port on the TV? That should have the AV amp plugged into it because ARC lets the TV send audio back out (as well as audio+video in), and the Q either into another socket or (usually better) into the amp if it has a spare socket. No need for optical.

@Anonymous haven't got a sound bar just LG tv, not sure how it's wired up because I can't pull unit out by myself but it's been ok for 2 years since I bought the tv, only started with this problem this week

Go back to the 'Audio Visual' settings page and try turning 'HDMI Control' to 'Off'.

When you changed the sound setting to 'Normal' did you remember to 'Save' the changes?

@Anonymous @Just tried this, seems to have improved problem slightly as now it's not turning tv off every time I fast forward just about every 4th time, however the tv is making a kind of juddering sound just before it turns off

You'd have to look at the LG settings I think, I don't have one myself but look at the options for audio and HDMI control if there is any.

Is the TV fully up to date software wise?

No problem.

We did have a LG 43" but gave it to the son when we upgraded to a 50" Sony and at one time it was turning itself on at night which I tracked down to the HDMI control from the (then) Sky HD box. I was suspecting ghosts at one point.

Have you tried a different HDMI port on the TV? If it's on HDMI with Arc control for instance perhaps try a different one? Maybe a different HDMI lead as they're not all equal annoyingly.

The C in ARC doesn't stand for control, it's "audio return channel". No one should be plugging any source other than an AV amp or soundbar into that.

The second C in CEC does stand for control. That's what turns the TV on or off under the insistence of a Sky box or other connected device. And usually all the inputs are CEC compatible although for some bizarre reason all the manufacturers brand it differently with silly sci-fi names.

Sorry, what's this in response to? The forum software doesn't thread discussions and unless you hit the little " button to quote the person you're reply to, or tag them with @ then it's hard to figure out the context of your reply.

Except that you had to remove your home cinema? How is that not "broke"?

Basically that's what should be plugged into the ARC socket. That's the whole point of ARC.

Home cinema is part of the setup and all now works fine. After all criticism from others and only try to help. I'm done....
