Sky Q mini - will a 3rd box work with a 1TB sky q?

I am trying to figure out whether it is worth paying £50 for a 3rd sky q mini box. I'm sure I've read somewhere that you can only have more than 2 if you have a 2TB box. I'm pretty sure my Sky Q box is a 1TB but I can't seem to find anywhere that tells me what size it is (I've looked on my sky account and in system settings but haven't found anything). It's offering me a 3rd box on My Sky but am I right in thinking that if I do have a 1TB then there will be limitations on what we can watch if all 3 boxes are being used? I'd appreciate any help or insight thank you.

You need to check the hardware version.  https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-software-updates

It's not the total number of mini boxes (Sky will only lend you 4) that's the issue - it's the number of concurrent boxes.

No Q box supports more than 2 concurrent mini's.

hi @wendle73

The non UHD 1TB only supports 1 active mini (Hardware version 32Cxxx) the 1TB UHD box ( 32B2xxx) supports 2

As @PandJ2020 says you can only have a max of 2 active minis for SKY content  - although you can use more if being used only for streaming such as Netflix & in use first

Thank you for this. It would seem that I actually have a 2TB box.

So just to clarify I've understood what you are telling me directly, are you saying that it means I can only have 2 boxes viewing independently at the same time? Ie the third box would have to watch the same programme as one of the others or wouldn't be able to watch anything?

The latter unfortunately.  (Other than stream as @nigea99 added)

hi @wendle73

Not quite - if 2 minis are being used (unless as I mentioned one is being used for streaming an app) then the 3rd will come up with a message saying you can't use it at all

(Sorry I don't know the actual message)

Thank you very much for clarifying this. It does seem a bit pointless paying for 3 then.

Thank you very much for your help. I was hoping we could watch 3 at the same time independently but if this isn't the case then you've saved me £50+😃

For many that is true - for some though it means they can have additional boxes in different rooms that they may not be in at the same time (e.g. Kitchen vs Bedrrom)

Just for clarity the main Q box doesn't count towards that number.  So you can watch 3 screens at once, just not 3 minis...
