So Sky will no longer perform automatic upgrades on my sky+ HD box. Sky wants to phase them out. I don't like Sky Q for one reason only and that is because of the mini boxes. I have additional sky+ boxes that my kids records their own programmes on. With Sky Q all recordings would be on the main box with no profiles.
Why can't Sky allow the mini boxes to work in the same way that the old Sky+ HD box works.? Will there come a point when my sky+ HD box no longer function?

@Manicpob your existing setup will continue to work for the foreseeable future however if any of your existing boxes fail you will no longer be able to pair viewing cards to replacement boxes

Streaming is the future, apparently.

Because having a hard disk drive only on the main box was a fundamental design decision in Q and could not be changed without rethinking the whole system: this is what enables the 'fluid viewing' which was so prominent in Q advertising back in early 2016.
Given the platform is now nearly nine years old and its end of life is very much in sight, a hardware redesign is simply not going to happen.

I wish they had sought thoughts from users. I have 2 adults who have their own TV and box. Changing to recording in my box would be a pain that I would be unwilling to compromise u Tim I have too. Maybe by then the Q system will be rethought out for better multi room options.

The days of recording is numbered. The move to streaming makes it irrelevant. (And the broadcasters love it because it gives them complete control over their material)
There will not be any future multiroom solution other than a streaming puck connected to the TV.

That's not going to happen. Sky Q has been in operation for 8 years and Sky have not felt the need for what you want in that time.

Oh well there might be something new from another company. Who knows.

True but seems unlikely. There are recording devices (slowing disappearing) but none provide any true multiroom functionality.
Even freeview may have its days numbered due to freely - the future is steaming without recording.

Q is an end of life product: it's already superceded by Glass/Stream which has no local recording functionality at all.

It's a shame that customer preferences don't matter. I will manage until I need to change. My adult kids may move out by then and I won't need the additional boxes. Who knows. Thanks for alll the replies.
