Sky Q mini box, does it extend your wifi network like the old boosters did?

I already have 2 sky mini-boxes and I would like to add another one to an office.

In this room there is poor wifi coverage and I spoke to an engineer at sky about getting a sky booster. But he said that the mini box now does this instead (acts as a network boosters too), which would work well as I would like sky tv in this room also. Just checking if anyone has experience of doing this, does it work well and is it just the normal £50 mini box that I order on the my sky app?

Thanks

Hi @Kerryha

If on Sky Broadband (provided you do not have the Sky Max router),  then the mini boxes act as Broadband hotspots by default.

On the 3rd party broadband it is possible to set the minis as hotspots (see link below).  However many do not find this very successful when not on Sky.

You say that WiFi coverage is poor in your office.  Bear in mind that the mini needs to connect to the main Q box by WiFi before it can be a hotspot.

@Kerryha

Putting a Mini box in an area of poor coverage is just going to lead to frustratingly  poor television viewing....

'Boosters' are really 'relays' or 'repeaters', intended to go mid-way between source and clients.
