Sky Q mini and Sky Max issue

So just upgraded to Sky Max. I currently have Sky Q and Sky Q mini.

I've gone to set up the Max box today. Initially fine. However, I then noticed my box downstairs didn't have OnDemand or apps. It noted connectivity issue.  Same upstairs with the mini.

I reset the box's and the hub. Would works for 2mins, then straight back to the same issue. Phoned sky, we went through a few things and they agreed to an engineer tomorrow, yeahs it's a Sunday but it's quick at least.

so I've spent a few hrs trying to sort. I thought I would google about the issue, and apparently this is a known problem. Completely confused why Sky would let me take Max if they clearly know I have a mini. Straight away regretted moving from my prior provider.

I called Sky, they said one mini box is normally ok.. clearly it isn't in this case. They said the engineer maybe to work around, as there are options. Has anyone got any suggestions or helpful advice in regards to this.

thanks in advance!

Hi @xMidniterx

Apparantly with the Sky Max router it's best to set it up like a 3rd party router.

First reset your broadband router.
On Sky broadband hold the Reset on the back of the router until the power light flashes green (about 10 seconds). Don't unplug or switch off your router while it resets. The power light will go green when it's done.
Wait until the router is completely back and running and then try a Network Reset found in main Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to connect by WiFi to 3rd party router. Even if reset is not listed there is still an option to connect by WiFi to Sky or 3rd party router
Then you need to enter the SSID and password for the router 2.4 Ghz WiFi band..

If you can get the main box connected then carry out a Network Reset on the mini.

Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with main Q box.
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the main Q box (not the mini as the Network reset will start the mini WPS automatically).

Being a bit thick, how would get the SSID for the 2ghz on the router, as apparently you can't access that?

Hi @xMidniterx

The SSID and password for the 2.4 Ghz band should be printed on the Max router

Re: Sky Q mini and Sky Max issue

Right I've connected via the wps on the q box, instead of connecting direct to the router and it appears to have worked... again just mental.. it shouldn't be this hard. Sky when calling should also ask you to run through this as well. Thanks for the help

Re: Sky Q mini and Sky Max issue

Having the same problem, I disconnectred and turned everything off, then connected each room, everything connected but sky boxes. The main q box did connect but mini box just would not stay connected. I followed what was said above, seems to be connected longer but its still a bit glitchy. everything worked just fine with the Sky Hub 5 router but this one sucks. I really wish I didn't decide to upgrade. I feel more like I downgraded. Its daft, everything else gets a really good connection even in same room as the mini box but sky's own equipment doesn't want to connect or stay connected. Will see how it goes. Next will have to be phone call to sky if this disconnects again, no one can watch about 2 mins of a show and then keep restartin router and reconnecting. Talk about jumping through hoops 😞
