Hi @Chodley

As it's 3rd party broadband the Booster needs connecting by Ethernet.

That's not how it was set up by my installer

Depends to what it is connected @Chodley

You cannot connect a Q booster to 3rd party WiFi.

Hi @Chodley

The booster is plugged via cable into the router and both router and booster are in same room as the main sky Q box.

Can you connect the Q box to the router over ethernet?

it never behaved itself properly and that might explain why! Got rid of it a while back.

Anyway, yes I would connect the Q to the router over ethernet and the 2 minis to the 2 eeros over ethernet and probably get a 3rd eero connected to the router over ethernet too (as per current setup) and disable the router's wifi.

Re: Sky Q loosing internet

@Chodley No the sky Q box can't be hard wired as it means running a cable round the edge of the lounge.

Might be preferable to it not working 😉

Can eero's work via wifi to the router or do they have to be hardwired?

Re: Sky Q loosing internet

I'm not sure, I was advised to have the one downstairs hardwired to the router for better connection then the second one that's upstairs is wirelessly connected to the one downstairs. It only started playing up yesterday been fine the way it is for over 12 months

Smart tech doesn't stay stable as it tries to be too smart. You have the router's wifi turned off? And what 5GHz channel is the eero's wifi on?

Hi @Chodley

That wouldn't work as if on Ethernet the minis need to on the same Network as the main Q box.

I think that would effectively form a single network where broadcast traffic and the Q's quirky networking would make it. I do something similar with mesh+powerlines and it is stable.

I beg to differ @Chodley

Minis will only work reliably on the same Ethernet Network as the main Q box.

Re: Sky Q loosing internet

The eero is connected to the 2.5 ghz network. The mini boxes have to be connected on the same network as the sky Q box. So with the sky Q box on eero so is the mini boxes upstairs. If i connect the sky Q box to main Wi-Fi then mini boxes have to be connected to main Wi-Fi. Signal upstairs isn't as good hence the erro network. If I can get the sky Q box connected to the network then I wouldn't have an issue with mini boxes. So best way to look at the issue is forget all about the mini boxes. The issue is keeping a stable connection to the internet on sky Q box. If my lad has played most of the day on his Xbox on the erro network without any issues then surely it must be a issue with the Q box?

"the 2.5 ghz network"

2.4 or 5. There's no 2.5

The minis aren't / can't be using the eero network though you use that to first set them up and find the Q. After that they will be talking direct to the Q over its own mesh. If you were using Sky broadband then they would be using it, it behaves completely differently then. For no justifiable reason.

The issue is certainly with the Q. No one suggested otherwise. It is extremely fussy with its networking.

Re: Sky Q loosing internet

Same problem here. I have a new router and worked fine for a month but recently the connection dropped and need to reset it!!
Looks like sky have a glitch in their system...

And why people suggesting to run a cable ?? We are in 2023 we shouldn't have to use wire anymore...

Because cables are much faster and more reliable, whatever date it is. I say this as someone who has a 5 node wifi mesh covering the whole house and garage. But who has had enough of trying to troubleshoot Sky's weird networking implementation. I actually only use a short cable on the Q itself into one of those mesh nodes and it's wifi from there on and still 100% stable. The minis were easier to do with powerline adapters. I didn't bother to run ethernet all over the house.
