I will go back to Freeview. I'm too old for modern streaming. I like to record things on a physical device.

It's likely Freeview will also be streaming in the not too distant future (see Freely).

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

Freely are just about to release a recordable box and EE broadband do a recordable box so clearly we are a long way off from the future you suggest.

@Paul_G

Free to air channels negotiate content availability based on the rights owners accepting that local recording may be possible.  Where rights owners don't agree, those channels cannot distribute their products (which represent an ever-increasing percentage of global media production)

Freely are not about to release a recordable box. They do not manufacture hardware.

Humax are about to release the Aura EZ recorder which has Freely and a free-to-air Freeview Play tuner. It is not yet known whether the Freely streams can be recorded or if (more likely) it will just be the Freeview OTA channels that can be recorded from the aerial input.

TiVo has also recently gained Freely certification which will allow it to potentially release products with Freely built-in. As yet, there is no mention whatsoever about recording capability.

The EE TV Pro box can record streams but only from certain channels. Some recorded content also restricts the ability to fast forward through ads.

You really shouldn't be scared of streaming. Once you free yourself from the constraints of an EPG or live TV and create your own schedule of viewing, it's very easy to avoid advertising from many services by paying for the appropriate higher ad-free tier. I can't remember the last time I saw an advert to be honest.

Whatever. I've already said that if SKy Q gets turned off and there is no way for me to record Sky programs to a physical hard drive then I will no longer be a Sky customer. End of.

Don't be pedantic. You know what I meant.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

It's not just about fast forwarding through adverts it's about being able to record a program or series and being able to watch it whenever I want.

Hi @Paul_G   You mean, like adding it to your playlist, to watch it whenever you want.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

It does but you're at the mercy of the content provider. I have series I've recorded on my Q box from over 2 years ago that is no longer available on catch up.

Exactly, which is why many content owners don't want their material recorded...

And which is exactly why if Sky Q goes and there is not a recordable solution. I will no longer be a Sky customer. I've said this already by the way so there is no need to reply.

Sky tv after 2029

Hi all,

when sky q ends in 2029 will I loose the function to record tv for example I record the British touring cars from itv4 as it's on all day and I watch it over a couple of days as I do other things when it's on, I hope I can still record when it ends

@JamesJGordon Once Sky Q ends its highly unlikely you will be able to record anything through Sky TV, that is unless Sky/Comcast decide to develop and release a recordable streaming box(and that is even less likely).
