Sky themselves will not respond here.

It's not a secret that Sky have signalled the end of the satellite TV era in the UK.  But quite a few more years yet.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for your questions on Sky Q and the online sales journey. I can confirm Sky Q is no longer available to buy online, however I can reassure you that Sky Q is still going strong with no changes to how existing customers can manage their package online or through the My Sky App.

Customers can still call us if they'd like to order Sky Q, or visit one of our retail stores. Alternatively, they can opt for one of our popular streaming products, Sky Glass and Sky Stream, which are chosen by 9 in 10 of our new customers.

I'm going to mark this post as the current answer, so that everyone has the most up-to-date information.

Thanks

With Comcast already selling off Sky Deutschland (plus Austria and Switzerland) that's not entirely impossible.  Unfortunately they probably wouldn't get anywhere near what they paid for Sky Group back in 2018, even after the eight billion dollar write-down.

Still won't be over satellite, though.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

Unless Sky come up with a recordable box for Sky stream then the day the satellite finishes and I can no longer use Sky Q will be the same day that I leave Sky.

The whole point of streaming is not to 'record'!   Content owners don't want their programmes recorded.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

So why am I recording on my Sky Q box then. If I can't record to watch when I want I'm not interested.

Because Q is not a streaming box.  It's primarily a satellite TV box (that just happens to have some streaming apps - that don't record)

@Paul_G

Because with Sky Q and the no longer supported Sky+ (which are both Comcast products) you have the option to 'record'.

Q is now a decade old, and the first Sky PVR launched nearly quarter of a century ago: times have changed since then.  Media distribution is switching to a different model: there's never been a right to retain broadcast content, just a limited exemption to copyright for the purpose of time-shifting which is rendered obsolete by on-demand access.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

Well as I've already said. Once I lose the ability to record I will be ditching Sky.

You will be lucky to find another provider that will allow you to record

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

I will go back to Freeview. I'm too old for modern streaming. I like to record things on a physical device.
