Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online
And which is exactly why if Sky Q goes and there is not a recordable solution. I will no longer be a Sky customer. I've said this already by the way so there is no need to reply.

Sky tv after 2029
Hi all,
when sky q ends in 2029 will I loose the function to record tv for example I record the British touring cars from itv4 as it's on all day and I watch it over a couple of days as I do other things when it's on, I hope I can still record when it ends

Re: Sky tv after 2029
@JamesJGordon Once Sky Q ends its highly unlikely you will be able to record anything through Sky TV, that is unless Sky/Comcast decide to develop and release a recordable streaming box(and that is even less likely).

The streaming platform is unlikely to ever have the same sort of recording Sky + and Sky Q had, instead it relies upon on-demand versions being made available to watch on catch-up on whichever service has the rights to that property.

Re: Sky tv after 2029
I two will miss the recording facilities of Sky Q part of my subscription is Sky Cinema the way Sky works it down load the movie in recording section of the and yes some movies self delete in time but many don't and stay there until I decide to delete them so if I like a particular movie and to watch it some time in future all Ito do is find it my recording and can view even year later at no extra cost. How ever with stream has not got this facility and watch them as a stream. So when the movie is removed Sky cinema s libarey after some time a couulpe months the only way Iwatch it again is paying for it in Sky store.

Re: Sky tv after 2029
Sky Q was never designed to keep recordings indefinitely although the majority of customers probably do so. It's there for what's described as 'time shifting'. You record a programme, watch it and delete it.

Re: Sky tv after 2029
I suppose if it's like Netflix or similar I could wait till it's uploaded then watched at a time that's convenient for me but it's still a long way off yet

It's likely Freeview will also be streaming in the not too distant future (see Freely).
I think it's 2034 when the decision is going to be made whether to auction off the rest of the UHF band used by terrestrial TV to mobile operators.

Here's a radical thought. Re-purpose Sky Q boxes as streaming boxes. I can be done because the very first Sky Italia streaming boxes were repurposed V1 Sky Q boxes. They even had the satellite tuner and the obligatory terrestrial TV tuner that was required in Italy.

Well if they are going to turn off Freeview too then I just hope that every single household has BB and that it is reliable and fast enough.

hi @simon194
Needless to say you are not the first to make such a suggestion.
In reality, however SKY Q boxes are already old tech & not been produced for a couple or more years.
SKY Q development also ceased a while ago & it is not really likely to be a cost effective course for SKY to take
SKY Q minis have already had the limitation of being able to provide UHD
Don't forget they already have the SKY Stream product which covers streaming SKY & other channels and this is where SKY & comcast globally is focused.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online
Dint know if this has been questioned but if Sky Q is no longer purchasable and you need to get stream or the TV which both require internet what are those who don't have fast enough internet or don't wish for internet. As even though company's are rolling out faster internet in quite a few places they still only have standard copper which gets around 10mbps which might allow for it to work but stream requires 25mbps. Also what about those who don't require internet and/ or don't want or afford it knew top of stream

The original thread title has been amended to reflect that new Sky Q subscriptions are not available online. At the moment it's available by calling in.

@SeleneNel As far as we know q is still purchasable but only via phone not online
satellite services have a finite life span because the satellites that provide it will run out of fuel by the end of the decade and won't be replaced hence why the government are trying to the whole country super fast internet has this will probably be the only way to receive tv services eventually
