Sky Q installation advice pls

Can anyone advise re. Sky Q installation please?  I have been told I would need a new dish if I was to upgrade as our current dish is on our chimney that was installed back in 2008 and they no longer access high areas due to h&s.  The issue I have is where the dish could go on our house.  Do new cables need to run from the outside walls into the house.  Where our TV is positioned in our front room I cant see how or where a cable could run from the outside wall.  I currently have a Sky plus hd box but am getting issues with it.  I think our current cables run from the current dish down our outside wall and into our cellar and up through the floorboards into our front room.  I really dont know about these things but wondered if anyone been in a similar position with needing a new dish.  I dont really want another dish but dont know how else this can be resolved.

@LQ2  If you don't want a new dish, then have you consider sky glass or stream

i'll observe that satellite tv could be a thing of the past come the end of the decade when the current satellites are likely to be decommissioned

Re: Sky Q installation advice pls

Thank you for your reply.  Sky glass or stream is not something we want.

If we have to have a new dish for sky q its the location of it that's the issue. There must be thousands of people who have a dish on their chimney and need to upgrade to sky q especially as it seems the sky plus hd boxes are being phased out - do they all have to have another dish put on their house i wonder.

Just to let you know it is not specifically a replacement dish but the electronic bit on the dish (LNB) needs to be changed as th eone used by SKY +/HD (a Universal LNB) does not work with SKY Q which needs a 'Wideband' LNB.

The problem you face, as you have been advised, s that SKY's own health & safety precautions and other guidelines means that dishes at height &  on chimneys    are different to years sgo

SKY also would not route cables as you have described - although you could possibly get advice / quote from a local installer to see if they could install a dish at an accessible location

As @nigea99 indicates, an independent installer has both the time and (typically) much more flexibility in working practices and access restrictions to carry out bespoke cable routing which Sky personnel won't even contemplate, although you'll be paying for the privilege.

Be aware that for Sky to carry out a Q box installation the dish must be located somewhere they can reach it in the future even if they do not need to do so now.

I forgot to say if your SKY HD box is playing up & it is not a dish or cable issue then you could try buying a second hand SKY Hd box from the likes of ebay.

If you thnk you may still try switching to SKY Q you may wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Re: Sky Q installation advice pls

Hi, I am returning to my original post looking for further advice/guidance hopefully.

I really need to upgrade to Sky Q.  I have been told in the past by an engineer that I would need a new dish as my current dish is on the chimney which they no longer access. If I have a new dish for sky q do they need to drill  new cables from the outside wall into my home?  Has anyone else had to have a new dish when they already have one on the chimney?  Just looking to find out what is involved.

Also I need to upgrade my internet with them to full fibre – can anyone advise what is involved with this are cables required to run through the house also.? Many thanks

Probably, unless you can retrieve the existing cabling from the current dish (or comission someone else to do that) and it's long enough to reach the new dish location.

Into the house, yes.  The Openreach ONT is typically installed inside an external wall closest rather than deeper in the property.

Actually, for the Q installation additional drilling shouldn't be required because the current entry point is presumably potentially available: you'd have to deal with the old cabling though.
