Sky Q hub and broadband but a landline with BT

Hi, I rarely use my landline but am wondering if Sky will be contacting me soon as my area (South East England) will be moving over from analogue to digital in the near future. I have not been given a specific date as of yet. My landline is with BT my tv/broadband package is with Sky, I have a Sky Q hub with no port to house a phone. Any help, information or advice would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Hi @AJ62   Why would Sky call you if you have your calling plan with BT?

Hi, only because I posted a similar question on the BT forum and was given that information. Am I to presume then that BT will contact me an try to persuade me to take out a phone & broadband package with themselves as their digital equipment isn't compatible with Sky?

Hi @AJ62  It looks like you are in a very rare situation, I certainly wouldn't worry about the PTSN switch off until you are forced. It has been delayed due to these situations. Probably now 2027.

Hi @AJ62

I would personally ask Sky to see if they can take over your calling plan. I suspect that they will try and brush you off but keep trying until you get somebody that understands. Separate companies for calling plan and broadband will be completely alien to most advisors. Certainly, you cannot use BT Digital Voice unless you use a BT/EE Smart Hub with a telephone socket. Definitely will not work with a Sky hub. Obviously, Sky broadband will not work with a BT/EE Smart Hub.

Re: Sky Q hub and broadband but a landline with BT

I think maybe people are getting confused and the op hasnt explained things well. I have a feeling that the op means he has a BT line as thats what Sky Broadband uses, not that he pays BT for his landline and Sky for broadband. Sky do not offer broadband only with no voice. They would have taken over the landline when signing up for broadband. Check your bill for Sky Talk.

What i imagine would happen when the time comes to go digital VOIP would be that Sky send out a new Sky Broadband Hub which does have a phone port. This is what they now send out when signing up for Broadband unless you go for the Sky WIFI Max Hub.

@Sparkymatt100  Historically you could have Telephone/voice services with one company and broadband with another on the same line.

Although this is now rare there are still customers in this situation so it's not impossible this is what OP is referring to.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

@GD1 Yes i remember, but wasnt that with the old ADSL connections? As far as I can recall, when you took broadband with Sky, they took over your line and you paid a line rental with your broadband. Later years, the line rental was included in the broadband price. Thats definitely how it happened with me when I moved from ADSL to FTTC many years ago lol

@Sparkymatt100  And there are still some customers on ADSL who are in this unique situation.

Re: Sky Q hub and broadband but a landline with BT

Hi, yes I do have a separate Sky broadband package and call package with BT. Looks like I'll have to upgrade to Sky Superfast to be able to continue to use my landline and leave BT.
