And the only thing that's changed is that 2nd option was switched on before?

Sounds like maybe 2 different issues.

Domain name services. It's the global directory that makes the entire internet work, it's been around since 1983 as the way that internet devices turn names like "www.sky.com" into numeric IP addresses

the problem is when one of the copies of the directory (in this case it appears to be TalkTalk's) doesn't correctly update a change of address so your requests for downloads get sent to the wrong place/likely a non-existent address.

to change which dns server you are using for lookups, do this;

  1. Press the ‘Home’ button on your Sky remote

  2. In the left-hand menu scroll to and select ‘Settings’

  3. Select ‘Network connection’

  4. Select ‘Network setup’

  5. Click on ‘Edit’

  6. Select DNS server from this list (IP address, Subnet mask, Router, DNS server)

  7. Write down the existing entry so you can re-enter it later when this all blows over

  8. Replace it with 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, either will do
  9. Hit Confirm
  10. power off your sky box for 30seconds. This step seems overkill but it's in the guide I just googled

You don't need to change it on your router, since this seems to be an issue specific to Sky download services, but you could set it there too if you know how, wouldn't break anything.

Re: Sky Q download

Hi, is this a sky download issue or do I need to contact talktalk for them to resolve the problem

Re: Sky Q download

You could ask talk talk to remove any security features attached to your router

It's affecting people who don't have that eero router though. Like I say, it might be two different issues with the same symptoms.

I would just change DNS, then try the security setting thing that worked for you, and not bother wasting my time contacting either of them.

It's a TalkTalk (no other ISP seems affected) issue that impacts Sky's download service.

Re: Sky Q download

On Talk Talk. No need to change DNS for me - on EERO router turn off AdBlocking and Advanced Security - worked straight away.
