My new box fixed everything - not had the problem since.  I do use Disneypls and almost every night while watching it just goes blank, you have to go back to sky and then go to disney again, but other than that all working fine.

Re: Sky Q box won't turn on, fan noise

Hi everyone. Interesting reading. I've had this issue since December. 4 new boxes, new dish, replaced extension lead for new ring main for direct power and the issue continues to happen at least once a week.

Spoke to sky again and they're saying there is nothing they can do, which I find unacceptable. Has anyone been able to get this issue fixed, and how???

I don't believe it has anything to do with power or networking, but some sort of signal or software update fault. It can't be the boxes. Something is telling the box to go into standby and then overheat, to which the box becomes unresponsive.

I don't want to leave sky, but at the same time they can't provide a compliant service against my contract. Look forward to hearing from you all.

Yes. I got a new box.

You've had 4 refurbs. I bet they went back because they had that exact problem and they didn't actually get fixed.

Hi I'm with you totally unacceptable, Sky told me to just cancel because there was nothing they could do after 6 new boxes , power changers , numerous calls and visits from so called senior engineers.
They refuse to accept they have software or hard ware issues with Q

I'm guessing we're being fobbed off with refurbed boxes , just being re cycled.
I fixed my issue mostly by moving Sky n to an old 100mb router but it still happens occasionally.

My guess is they want to get rid of Q and dishes and move every one onto their flakey stream platform. They refused any compensation for the months of inconvenience caused saying it was my problem. I am just about to leave. Everything else is pretty much available on free to view or apps for what I watch . Just Sports is the final hook!

One thing I did have some time ago, that I was shocked at was I needed to plug directly into a socket rather than an extension cable.

its joke the excuses they come up with. I had to remove an extension lead (that was there for 5years before) and install 5x double sockets to prove another point.

Its time this went public becuase its ok for Sky to charge a premium when it suits them. But they can provide a fully functioning service.

Please keep sharing your experiances. As well as any possible solutions as the provider can't be bothered.

I had constant issues with this a few weeks ago. Not sure what if anything I did apart from switch off then on again, but it hasn't happened for weeks now. No replacement box requested. As I've posted before, I don't understand how this can be a hardware issue.

I had that too when an engineer came out.

what the guy didn't grasp was that it habern working fine on an extension lead for 8 years prior to it starting the standby issue. He also changed the dish plugs like that was going to make any difference !!
The only change to anything was I'd moved to EE from BT and installed a new gigabit router.
