What's the theory around Eco mode?

It was the first thing the Tech team told me to do.  they said, it does not really do much but it can have some strange effects, so I always turn it off.  Not that it has made any diffrerence!

And there was me thinking that I was in the clear when it hadn't happened for a few days....just started now, which in fairness is the first time it has happened during the day. Usually happens overnight for me.

Is this new box, eco off but connected via Ethernet?

Yep I have gone back to my 1g connection too.  I get 900 in the house so thought it's worth using that rather than limiting to 100.  And eco is now turned off

Right, loathed to write this but no problems since I got the new box so seems it's an issue with the hardware.  Use the app to say something is wrong and at the end they will send you an new box.  You lose recordings as you have to give your old box to the delivery guy, don't forget to take out your card!

I just don't get it. If this is an overheating issue, then why does this only happen in standby mode? Why doesn't this happen when the box is in use? Why does a 30 second switch off resolve the issue (for a while at least). Why is it so erratic? In my case it was initially happening every other day, but now it's more like once a week. This seems to me to be more firmware/software related rather than hardware. Very frustrating.

Actually for me, it did happen while using the box, admitidly only once.

Unfortunately Sky stream is what it says a simple streaming service for Sky and other channels. No recording function. 
you can create a playlist thing that allows you to stream stuff on demand. 
my mate has it and has lots of issues with it freezing at crucial moments and not being able to re watch (he has good internet)

sky Q far superior if / when it works .

You would think they would create a hybrid, where it's streamed rather than via satallite, but then has the recording feature too.

I assume they are trying to cut hardware costs, so each new customer is cheaper to bring on, and the tech for a streaming service is much less than a HDD and Satallites are going offline next few years.

It's a shame we dont have a tivo service here, Virgin made a total hash of it.

Quick update , and good luck to those with new boxes and running sky q on their gigabit  network without issues , fingers crossed everything stays 👍 

Our issue started when moving onto EE 900mb FTP internet. Netgear gigabit wired network for q boxes and other stuff in the house.

6 new Q boxes, numerous tech calls , 2 tech visits tried many different settings in eco mode changes etc , not using extension leads etc etc.... continuing random problems. Was about to throw Sky out.

until....

I put an old 100mb switch connected to my main switch just for Sky q and bingo, not one  issue. Perfect connection all Sky boxes. No going into standby , load fan, failed recordings etc 

it's been 3 months now and not one issue.

not sure the tech reasons behind it, sky don't have a clue. But it's worked.

I'm having exact same issue. Old box was in same position for years working fine. All of the sudden the fan kept getting stuck on. Sy replaced the box and same issue occurred with the new box. Absolutely rubbish and very inconvenient having to keep turning the box off and on and then reconnect to mini-box. Not what you expect for nearly £100 per month subscription 😞

Interestingly, mine has not done this for at least a couple of weeks, if not longer. And I haven't changed anything. I just don't get how this is a hardware issue.
